BTW, the red indicator is the Vent timer icon. You have a vent timer programmed in the OBC..
From the manual..
Indicator lamp for the independent ventilation system
Lights up: The independent ventilation system is programmed
Flashes: The independent ventilation system is operating

AND... while the manual doesn't state this.. DON'T use the Aux heating if the car is parked in an enclosed space (garage etc.)
The small Webasto heater (Thermotop-Z) has it's own exhaust pipe etc. and will fill your garage with fumes.
Re: Head Unit sound cuts out after a few seconds of playing
WPOLL thanks for the heads up regarding the aux. heater system and parked in an enclosed space (garage etc.)
Although, and I know I'll upset the purists out there, sometimes I think a is exactly what the car needs,
Q: BMW why make things so bloody complicated and difficult?
A: BECAUSE THEY BLOODY WELL CAN! (SORRY FOR THE RANT, BUT IT JUST ME OFF AT TIMES)
The aftermarket Head Unit
Okay the head unit itself has no manufacturers identity, but is made in that in that most commonly of place's CHINA. The HU is designed specifically to fit the E53 and the way they made it work with the existing BM54 and Alpine Amps was to run the harness cable from the front to the boot space where the wiring harness loops in and out of the BM54 unit and connects back to the existing harness to make the Alpine amp work with the new HU, (well that what it looks like to me anyway ) along with some data communications know how as well......

Existing OEM GPS System
Regards to the OEM GPS system will it be easy (yeah right) to update the system by buying an updated GPS data disc, like this one from EBay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-2018-Hig ... 3047386572
or if not suggestions please?
Addition of an OEM Compact Disc Player
Is it possible to upgrade the OEM system with an OEM compact disc player?
Look forward to hearing from you all
Cheers
Rich

Re: Head Unit sound cuts out after a few seconds of playing
The picture of your after market head unit looks very similar to the Dynavin unit I had in the 4.4. It worked brilliantly until a stuffing great tree got blown over and landed on the car!!
The head unit had Nav, Bluetooth and CD/DVD built in to the head unit TV was a separate DVB receiver in the boot. I added extra cables to the extension loom for radio antenna GPS antenna and DVB antennas which I mounted in the spoiler and the reverse camera so I could use the BMW connections in the boot. Then took out the OEM stuff an sold most of it on Ebay I still have a CD changer somewhere in the garage.
The 4.6 is all OEM but if stuff starts falling over I think I would go the Dynavin route again
