Hey All!

Post by cptscotland » Sun Aug 04, 2019 11:24 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm a long time lurker but decided to finally sign up! I'm based in Edinburgh for anyone wondering! Hoping to soon be a BMW X5 E53 3.0d Sport owner! Going to view 4 over the weekend coming and fingers crossed they drive good and then it will just be a case of picking!

Any advice on particular things to look out for other than:

Whines from engine
Noise from rear under acceleration?
What should I be checking for that should have been replaced? (Car's I'm looking at range from 95000-130000 miles).

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi and welcome to the forum

If going to view cars take your time as there are a lot out there. There is a good E53 buyers guide in that section.

With the earlier cars check all the electrics more than once pan roof windows air con heated seats etc, look for water ingress in footwells front and rear, usual car checks engine and bodywork, a car with good historyand maintenance are worth seeking out. Tyres are also important and a matched set show the owner has spent money on the car

Good luck and if you want existing members view on a prospective purchase and if they spot any issues

Graeme

Thanks Graeme! I'm potentially going to view this/test drive on Saturday http://www.your-carspecialist.co.uk/use ... 5298459303

Now other than the missing trim piece by the wheel and the back of the seats, is there anything else immediately obvious wrong?

Thanks

If you could pick that up between 4 and 4.5k that would be fair. Try and do a decent length of test drive, make sure the gear changes are smooth but particularly when coming to a standstill when dropping down from say 30 mph, make sure there’s no lurch or sudden changes.
Fully retract that pan roof 2 or 3 times, they’re too expensive to fix!

Whilst you’re checking everything electrical does what it should, look for the anti tamper dot on the dash by the mileage.

As well as checking the tyres are good/matching, check the age or them, mine had good tread - they were Michelin’s but were so old I had to change them as they had started to crack on the sidewalls - they were 8 years old!

Wow....£5500, that is a lot of money for that car (my opinion). Have a good search as you will get a good example for a lot less.
