Bridgestone Blizzak (winters)

I'm pretty sure that I've read these are BMW approved and as non run flats that would be a bonus.

Is this wishful thinking on my part, does anyone here use them? I'm looking at these or Nokians which certainly look good and the spec is OK too.

Perhaps I should add, Blizzaks would be new. I could go more budget focussed with Nankang SV55s which get decent ratings, or Continental SSRs. That would utilise some 2018 dated very lightly used rears with new fronts added.

If the tyre data includes a ‘*’ code then they are approved. There are certainly 19” Blizzaks (RFT) approved and ‘*’ marked, so not unreasonable there might be a 20” version too.

Of the versions on offer, (Camskill) none are * rated that i can see.

That in itself is not an issue for me. I simply desire suitable winter rubber that wont cause tranny issues. Depending who you want to believe, A, runflats are acceptable and B, some suggest BMW in Germany have a very different approach to BMW GB. I see a lot of winter wheels/tyres for sale there which are of course mandatory. Virtually none are * rated tyres or indeed runflats. If that works there then they'd work here too I imagine

I’m caught between a rock and a hard place because I have a BMW warranty running. That means everything must be ‘by the book’ or they walk away.

Getting the ‘truth’ out of BMW seems to be at the heart of things. I don’t buy tyres from BMW anyway!

I am very unlikely to buy new runflats of any type, (good part worn maybe) and more than likely i would purchase anything new from Camskill. I've emailed them to enquire about * rated Blizzaks.

Having further revised my thoughts and switched back to wanting 20" winter rubber i'm thinking again that the 19" stuff I have put up for sale may be the way forward after all. I'd still want the square set up wheels I have refurbished and I have new Vredesteins to hand to pop straight on. I suppose that's my easiest option but not the most visually "attractive".

Problem is, I have already committed to a set of genuine type 259 wheels that are currently being refurbished in matt black. They would look much nicer with some semi agressive winter rubber. If we got a lot of snow i'd just sit tight and keep warm indoors regardless. Now retired I dont have to go anywhere. In wet or slushy conditions though winter rubber would be good.

In reality my dilemma is simple, whether to commit circa £400 to refurb four 19" wheels or less to have the just the kerbed one redone, or spend circa £1000 on 20" rubber?

Bridgestone dont bring the Blizzaks into the uk. . We can get some sizes from Europe but not the bmw spec, 


nankangs are a budget tyre.

I think I'll get involved in politics where U turns are common. The original 19" square set up is just going to be easier. Refinished like here they look good to me.



And with the rear wheels exaggerated offset they aren't tucked right into the wheel arch, only being 8mm less than the 11" original wheel. I think i can live with that
