hi guys
been a year or so since i posted on here, im now looking for a new x5 through the approved used scheme. i only do short trips (my daily commute is 4.8 miles each way) so im not bothered about mpg in the slightest i do however need a reliable motor, im also planning a long trip around europe next year for our honeymoon so an x5 would be ideal for that.
are there any issues with either the x5m/50d or 50i ? and more importantly would these issues be covered under the bmw warranty?
i do like the 50d but for short trips i feel a diesel is a no-go and would be problematic if i did.
is the 50i the same engine as the x5m just with a lower power?
cheers guys

x5m/x50d or 50i
Re: x5m/x50d or 50i
I wouldn't be using a big diesel for such short journeys or you will be getting all sorts of emissions problems.
The 50i is basically the same as an M with different turbos and other M bits missing. But it's not an M.......
There can be a multitude of problems with the M engines (read the American forums), I have had a few with mine but the BMW warranty came good. I would not even contemplate one without the warranty, an early misfire on mine came to over a grand for labour, 1 injector, spark plug and cap.

yeah thats what i thought regarding the diesel version, in terms of sporty petrol powered suv's i dont have alot of choice......
range rover sport 5.0 supercharged
jaguar f-pace 3.0 v6 supercharged
jeep grand cherokee SRT 6.4 hemi v8 (this is my second choice after the x5)
bmw x5m/50i
i do really like the new x5 with the 3.0 turbo petrol engine but too expensive for me at the minute
was your misfire covered under warranty? did they give you a courtesy car?
Re: x5m/x50d or 50i
Yes the warranty covered the misfire with no quibbles.
If your after M performance think you might need an SVR or the Jeep.....

The M which I have has performance that is not comparable to any other X5 I have had before. Very pleasant ...

Re: x5m/x50d or 50i
which year is yours?
have you had any issues with it? im kinda scared of getting one as i know they can be very costly thats why im hoping the bmw warranty is good and not like every other warranty that are not worth the paper they are printed on.
do you know how much warranty you got on a new one? was it 3/4/5 years? if i could pick up a 17 plate with a few years left that would be ideal.
regards

Mine is a 2018, have had 0 issues and came with the standard 3 years warranty.
