Info Screen change ?

Post by Lambouk » Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:58 pm

Hi. I’ve been looking for a 3.0d X3 for a month now, I found one I like but it has the basic info screen so it’s small and no satNav. Is it possible to to change for another easily if I got one from a salvage yard??? Thanks for any help

I can't answer your question, but if you really want a car with pro nav (ie the large screen) can you not hang on a bit longer for a car to appear?

When I was looking for my 30d I waited over a year for the right car for me (had to be SE spec, not black silver or grey, and definitely not black leather). They are out there. What sort of distance from home are you looking? Try casting your net a bit further.

You would need to identify all of the required modules, computer, GPS antenna, wiring looms etc and then get the car coded to use all of them. Some of the changes just need licence codes on your in car computer, but hardware and wiring will be needed too.

BMW may offer a retrofit option - have a look at Realoem (on line copy of the BMW parts database) - but it won’t be cheap even from a scrap yard.

As said above, easier to wait for the right car. It can be done if you like a challenge though :)
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I’ll wait longer.

I recently bought an X3 which came without satnav and had small screen. Told the dealer I really liked the car but wouldn't buy without the Pro screen size and sat nav. He used his contacts to source and fit a new unit at no extra cost.
Make sure the unit you source has a built in gyroscope. The first unit I got didn't and the sat nav didn't pick up my turns. The next unit had this built in and work perfect.

I have the same setup and want to upgrade. Not scared of doing the work myself but unsure of what’s all required

My X3 30d came with the 6.5” screen and Bluetooth but no satnav.
I have recently fitted a satnav headunit with the 8.8” screen at the same time I decided to fit the half led instrument cluster 6wa.
It is a doable job but can be hair pulling at time.

Happy with the end results
