Fault codes, rough idle etc
Fault codes, rough idle etc
I've noticed lately that when I start from cold the engine idles a bit lumpy after starting up fine, maybe 30 secs later.
Then, and I thought it was my imagination, it seems to "hunt" a little whilst being driven, I can see the rev counter moving slightly, but again, this seems to go once warmed up.
Finally, lol, I thought I'd stretch the old girls legs this morning and ping, the engine light came on, although no difference in power.
Got home and plugged the generic code reader in and got P0443 and P1351, do you think they could be connected.
I have another question but I'll start a different thread, otherwise it might get a bit confusing.
Car is a 2003 4.6

Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
Those generic codes can sent you in all fault directions you really need BMW specific codes read.......
Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
When googled it suggests misfire in No5 cylinder and purge valve problem. Move No5 coil and see if you get a different code ie 61/41 then if necessary move the plug. Check your fuel cap is on properly and the wiring connection to purge valve
Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
Sounds like a plan to me, I'll do this and see if it makes a difference.
Fuel cap is on properly, although I did notice that the rubber o-ring/seal is cracked, could that cause this?

Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
Yes, it could.
Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
Ok I did look it up on the bmw parts catalogue but it looks like it comes as one
Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
New cap ordered, checked wiring and it all looks ok to me.
Have changed coil with the one next to it, will see what happens.

Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
New cap fitted, still getting P0443 come up every time I start the engine.
As for the other code P1350, nowt so far, even after swapping the coil.

Re: Fault codes, rough idle etc
Cheap stuff first. Put some contact cleaner on the purge valve electrical connection. Very carefully trace the rubber pipe to the throttle body and ensure it’s not perished in any way. Clean the throttle body. In an ideal world you would swap the PV to eliminate it.
