Not sure what model it is but it's a 220d auto with leather and an electric boot, it drives nice and is pretty quick, I find the driving position a bit strange.
We had a 2016 VW touran (latest shape) before the x5 and I found that a lot nicer to drive than the gran tourer but the BMW has the better infotainment.

They are waiting for BMW to get back to them regarding goodwill as it wasnt fixed the first time when they looked at it when it was under warranty.

I've just had a goodwill offer from BMW, they are gonna fit a new gearbox and I've got to pay £2700 towards it, does this sound like a good deal?

I'd be looking elsewhere to be honest, have you got any prices from gearbox specialists.
If you think BMW missed the problem before then stand your ground and refuse to pay any amount.

Nobody can give me a price yet until they take it apart and see exactly what's wrong and what needs changing.
I'm gonna keep the car for a while so I would rather a new box (re manufactured) than a repaired box and a replacement will come with a better warranty, I think the cost difference between a new one and a repaired one is not worth worrying about for peace of mind.

BMW are not repairing the box just replacing with a reconditioned unit, ( is that correct ).
If so then you can get prices from gearbox specialists for exactly the same work, you will get a warranty for at least 12months.

From my understanding it's a remanafacfured box which is rebuilt to oem standards so you get a longer warranty on it and not a recon box which has had the problem fixed but the rest of the box is still original(and worn) if that makes sense ,I'll find out more when BMW ring me back.
We need x5sport and his expert knowledge

Whilst you're waiting you could ring a couple of specialist places and ask what they actually do when a vehicle comes in with problems such as yours.
At least that way you'll have choices when BMW do get back to you.
I'd still be pushing for the full cost though.

I've spoke to BMW UK and tried getting it all covered but as I bought it privately with the warranty on it and it run out 4 months ago it's the best they can do.
I've just had a phone about and prices range from £1200 for a second hand box :o to £1500-£2000 for a recon with 6-12 month warranty.
The BMW box is as it comes out the factory and has a 2 year warranty.

It's a difficult one, at the end of the day you're going to be paying someone a lot of money to get your car back on the road.

I’d be pissed about having to pay out, but a factory fresh box and a two year warranty meaning no worries is a very strong selling point so I would probably have gone the same way you have. It’s a lot of money but it cost me nearly that to have a ZF specialist rebuild a 6-sp manual box on our E46 last year and put a new clutch and flywheel on with it.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Finally picked it up today and it drives lovely ,the gearbox is so much smoother now .
I forgot how comfy and quiet these cars are, it's good to have it back until the next problem......... :D
