Goodbye X5 50d

Post by mogsyman » Mon Mar 11, 2019 3:09 pm

3 years and 34,000 miles in the 50d and what a great car.

No faults, no issues apart from an average of low 20's except on a run through Europe where I managed nearly 40mpg.

Quick, refined with very little diesel noise/rattle and the toys I had were great.

It's going and I'm trading it against a brand new F90 M5 which I pick up on Friday (spec below for those interested)

M5 (non-CP)

Donnington Grey
M Sports Exhaust
M Seat Belts
Dynamic Safety
Driving Assistant Plus
Online Entertainment
M Drivers Package (this delimits the car to 195mph but don't tell my wife!)
Premium Package
Comfort Package

These are expensive machines and BMW are offering some eye-watering discounts currently.

I'll miss the X5, a great all-rounder and the 50d engine is simply brilliant............................

However, it doesn't have 600bhp and go quite as well as an M5 8)

PVR................we will definitely have to meet and have a look at each others exhausts!

I agree they're pretty epic cars, I'm 2 years and 20k miles into mine now and have been looking to change recently. The M5 with the current discount is looking attractive but I know I'd miss the driving position and the versatility of the X5.

We do long commutes to Spain every summer and the X5 really comes into its own on those trips, eats up the miles with ease and is really comfortable, economy as you say picks up too.

I've got an N430 Vantage as a toy, old fashioned normally aspirated engine and makes a lovely noise. Performance is not a patch on the M5 but at the moment I can't see myself swapping that but you never know. The thing with BMWs particularly the M cars or bigger expensive ones is the epic depreciation, fuelled by big initial discounts, meaning swapping out early is costly. I think that I'll end up letting mine run its full term and then see whats available then.

I'm not anti diesel as I think the big BMW six cylinder engines are very refined and if doing big mileage as I tend to, even in retirement, make them viable still.

Enjoy your new car I've driven one and was really impressed with how they go

That's a cracking quote for a standard M5

Anyone looking at these offers will probably add a few bits here and there albeit it's a pretty well spec'd car to start with.

Worth also bearing in mind the mileage restriction of 8k/annum which is pretty low.

No, Vines Gatwick.

I’ve bought a lot of cars from them and they always seem to hit the mark.

Wow, that is a good deal. Coming up to nearly 3 years on my 50D and love it, but this is tempting. How long do you think this offer will be available?

M5 has gone from their site. Obviously this offer is done to complete Q4 numbers.

That's a real shame - the deal was pretty darn good!

Just in case you would like to see what they look like.................... :D

Thanks for that Mogsyman    Interested to know what the exhaust sounds like, seems to be comments that the sound is more artificial than the older versions?

My car has the option sports exhaust and so far all I can hear when I hit the right button are pops and bangs 8)

I’m not sure if it’s more or less artificial than my F10, to be honest I’m too busy trying to pull my eyeballs from the back of my head.....
