OK, just did a run of motorway and town driving (roughly 70/30 split)

436 miles

74.71 Lires = 16.43 Gallons

436/16.43 = 26.53 MPG

Not that good really...............
Is that standard or has it been modified? I ask as I am getting 25.2 constant / 90 % Central London / 5800 Miles since Nov 10

If these are the best we are getting it is poor considering the figures on paper from BMW.

Absolutely, is there anyway we can complain or write to BMW we are mislead with their quoted figures. It might help if there are more than just 2 people. JASON hasnt got back to us yet after starting to this thread. hope he is working on improving mpg. The reaso x5 tipped for me against range rover/q7 is its mileage apart from it being bmw. anyway thats me

After having a new ECU on mine it's still piss poor, 22mpg. :x

If Jason can do anything with a map that will improve the MPG i would be definately interested.

Anyone what the petrol versions of the E70 do MPG wise ?

Looks like we need to start a thread with people who get less than 30mpg avg on their x5 diesels.

So we can write to BMW for their wrongly publicised numbers perhaps. As avatar was saying mileage apart from it being BMW is the only thing that tipped me to buy it.

I am sure you would be able to get quoted figures if you created the same test environment, I don't think they pull those figures from mid air.

You could probably get close, just need a few moods, the skinniest tyres, dont use any electrics, radio, ac etc, a nice warm engine, not to forget to drive down hill with a tail wind of 90mph :driving:

Thats sounds about right I will say though I have never owned a car which matches the manufacturers mpg.

Sure you didn't pop on your lead wellies from time to time Jalf?!! Can't see anyone with a car like yours just pootling along!? Does seem wrong though that a manufacturer can publish such misleading figures, so I assume it's not regulated and you have to rely on the honesty of different manufacturers. It'd be interesting to know what the car's capable at a steady 60, but don't see anyone on this forum having the patience for that - I know I wouldn't - I'd lose patience after a few mins and give it the beans!!
