Cv joints and strut bearings

Hi folks,starting changing these today until I came to take off the top mount.i compressed the spring with compressors and undone the nut,then the shock thread shot inside the spring and won’t return so i can reassemble.i take it they are goosed

You mean all the way to the bottom or just a few inches.

Must be goosed, I have changed mine in the past and neither dropped the rod to the bottom. You know you wanted some new ones really.
