EGR recall

Post by sapphireblack » Mon Jan 21, 2019 4:33 pm

After some reading here i checked the DVLA website last night and lo and behold, it looks like a recall was issued for my car on Friday 18th. Made the call and the car is booked in for Feb 20th.

I thought it odd yesterday morning when i climbed into it after a few static days and was immediately met with a gong advising low coolant level. Long story short this is one of the EGR issues apparently. Been advised not to use the car if possible. No mention of fire issues read about elsewhere but talk of possible engine seizure :x

Nothing showing against my 2010 (MY2011) 40d yet. I’ll keep checking :)

So i called to check my cars booking next week.

It's been booked for a while now for the much discussed EGR issue. I spoke to a Cooper BMW call centre clerk who handed off my call suggesting I would be best to speak to BMW technical. It now seems there is no EGR issue with my era of vehicle but there is the other recall I've read about, an alternator screw thats prone to failure.

How these matters could be confused is beyond me and what this says about BMW I'm not sure 🙄

BMW don't seem to have a clue. The recall got announced last July/August. By November I still hadn't heard anything, despite being 99% sure my car was affected. I called my local Sytner garage and was told categorically that my car wasn't affected.

Guess what....last Thursday I get a letter through the post saying that I must urgently book it in...!

Says a lot about BMW really. :headbang:

DVSA Recall site states April 2013 to September 2016 (2 recalls) for this so your Dealer really ought to have known about it.

The recalls cover 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 models. (X2 wasn’t in production).

DVSA Recall Notices R/2018/258 and R/2018/341 refer. Details below, with models and VIN ranges.

One place to look is on newtis.info. It’s a copy of the BMW Service manual. It might tell you what you need :)
