Latest satnav version

Post by silverbeemersurfer » Tue Sep 25, 2018 7:59 pm

Hi all, I have just purchased a September 2017 F25 X3 which has the 3 years of free satnav downloads included. The satnav version showing is Europe EVO 2017-2.
Does anyone know if this is the latest version or is there a 2018 version available? I have tried emailing BMW Customer services but can't get a reply ::)

I've got 2018-2.  Didn't come from BMW, but from an authorised reseller.

It's 18-02. I just updated mine.  It's just over 32GB so takes a while and is a faff as the USB drive has to be formatted to FAT32 which you can't do via the command prompt due to the drive size.

If it’s that new should you not be getting automatic downloads?

My 2018 F46 (220dx Gran Tourer) with what I thought was the same iDrive System gets 4 updates a year via the on-board telematics SIM.

It may need activating via BMW Connected Drive (bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk).  Not sure which ‘as built’ option needs to be in the car though.  Could be S6AKA or S6APA which cover connected & remote drive services.

Mine has connected drive but that option didn't seem to appear and the nav version was 2015 until I updated it.

My understanding is that the downloads are definitely "free over the air" for 3 years and 3 months and I do not need to use a USB drive as they are done automatically over the air. I am just trying to find out if there is a newer version which should be automatically downloaded.
I have  already activated my Connected Drive Devices and it shows that the automatic updates are live.
Is the 18-02 update you have installed for NBTevo Road Map EUROPE EVO version which is shown on my Version information screen?

Update.
My Connected Drive Services were unavailable for a while yesterday morning, with no satnav or radio / CD player.
However later around midday I checked and all was working and lo and behold the satnav version showed the same 2017-2, highlighted in red and on scrolling down it then displayed Update version 2018-1, again highlighted in red.

On checking our postcode, which wasn't available on the 2017 version, it is now available so the update was presumably being done overnight or early morning and that was the reason the system wasn't working.

I’ll have a look when the car returns this evening.  I had an ‘over the air’ update about a month ago, and I think that was 18-02 but I didn’t note the specific variant.

I don't know why, maybe the site is down, but I can't seem to login to connected drive service via my pc today.  The login button is grey and inactive.  I'm trying to see why I'm not getting over air updates.  Where is the SIM card by the way?  I can't see it in the manual.

Site must be down as I’m not getting in either.

The ‘SIM’ is buried inside the telematics system modem and is not user replaceable.  I wanted to change mine for a cheaper UK data package provider, but BMW tell me that is not possible as it is hardwired.

VW however let you use anything you want!

Thanks, yes, I noticed in VW group hire cars there was a SIM in the glovebox.  Android car apps would be nice to have too.

I have also just checked the Connected Drive Portal and am unable to login. I can click on the login box and a hand appears but nothing happens and it advises to try later. Obviously a problem.

ConnectedDrive is back up.

The map I have is Roadmap Europe 2018-1 WAY

Different iDrive I guess (it is the top of the line for this model)?

Thanks.  It seems mine is set to manual USB updates and I don't see an option to change it.  It's not clear but I think this means I've updated the whole of Europe whereas a region has to be selected for auto updates.

Just for those interested, I have just downloaded the 2019-1 satnav update for my 2016 F15 X5 3.0D M Sport. It has free updates until the end of this month so I have been checking to get it before it expires. It is NBT EUROPE Next 2019-1.
