Another New Member here

Post by Wayfarer » Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:38 pm

Hello
Just moved from a 2016 discovery 4 to 2018 x5 40d msport, following a catastrophic engine failure in the d4 at 20k Miles and 2.5 years! Engine replaced under warranty but confidence lost!

Hopefully the x5 will meet our requirements over the next few years, must admit very impressed with the car so far.
It is more on-road than off-road, but over the last few years our off roading requirement has tempered significantly and now it's only the occasional wet grass field when towing the caravan and occasional snow in the peak district that the 4x4 is really needed for.
Got a set of winter wheels as part of the deal.

Fingers crossed we have made the right decision, but had a few 3 series BMW's over the years and they have always been pretty good.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about the problems with the discovery, but hopefully you will find the X5 an improvement.

I think you will find it more rewarding to drive on the road

Photo of my x5 as requested.
Given the current weather, maybe white was not the best choice of colour.
Need to investigate if possible to fit mud flaps to protect the paintwork from stones and debris.
Drives extremely well given it size and weight.
Winter wheels and tyres now fitted- just in case!

It definitely looks good in white.

However, as you say with the weather mud flaps might be a good idea, if you have a look at BMW direct on eBay it should help identify which ones for you.

Looks great in white but you are right about the mudflaps as the front wheels will ruin the paintwork on the rear wheel arch /sill and lower rear door with stone chips.
I suspect they won't look very nice on a white car though ! :D
