Alternator/Pulley Issues

Post by khuram-23 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 12:05 am

Hi Guys,

Haven't had many issues since changing up to an E70 3.0d but the other day i got a Charging fault error with the red battery sign, whirring and squealing noise and then a strong burning smell came into the cabin and outside from the engine bay it was quite strong.

On a multi meter when car is off or on the reading is around 12-13v. Something is definitley wrong but can't narrow it down without taking apart so just wondering if anyone has had similar issue?

2009 X5 E70 3.0d is also on a bmw recall for alternator screw that goes into the pulleyin Jan 2019 so could be that but they do not sell the pulley on its own anymore apparently.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got the issue with the pulley on my 35d. It's actually really noisy I'm not sure if it's still safe to drive.
