Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
I've seen them on eBay but didn't know if they would be suitable. Be interested to see if they work OK Don. Can you do a link to the ones you got pls

Do I need sensors for the 19 winters or do I just swap the sensors on my 20 inch to the 19.

You will need sensors on the 19s but I’m not sure swapping from the 20s is the way to go. This will require the tyres coming off both sets of rims each time you swap them. This costs £10 per wheel at my local shop, so wouldn’t take long to cover the cost of the extra sensors.

Taking tyres in an off is not a good idea, and you need them on all the wheels.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
How can I tell if the alloys wheels with winter tyres 19 have the sensors already installed. I can’t see anything on the outside apart from wheel weights. If they have to fit sensors on do they have to take tyres off and then fit them. Can I get them from eurocarparts it only bmw sell them?

The tyre value is noticeably bulkier with the sensors.AdamsX5 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 12:09 pm How can I tell if the alloys wheels with winter tyres 19 have the sensors already installed. The last few picsare the oem Bmw winter package wheels 19 and the first pic is the X5 e70 which has the sensors installed as no error on idrive and tpms working.

Ok, got the winters on today. Aftermarket pressure sensors work a treat. I did have a warning when driving back from the garage but to be expected with the summer wheels onboard as well. So unloaded them and gone for a 10 minute drive and all good.

Just had the rears swapped over to star rating tyres as others were budget make.
Anyway garage said sensors were not needed and it worked off Abs. Couldn’t see sensors and TPMS is working fine. Does that mean the E70 does not require sensors as my 19 wheels are star rated but do not have sensors. The tyre were very hard to take off. £20 labour to change both and was a steal. Took over an hour.
It seems to me that when I swap wheels over the tpms should adjust to new wheels/tyres.?

Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
You're right, sensors on the valves are not required on the E70 but are on the later F15's
Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
Thx and there’s me about to order sensors. Saves so much hassle and expense as abs recognises rolling circumference.
Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
Mine went on about a week ago. I usually keep them on until the middle of March.

Re: Who's wearing their winters, I am?
I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable answer, but wondering why the manufacturers have moved away from using the ABS to identify a puncture and moved to the sensors. Just seems like something else that could go wrong.
Anyway, glad you were able to get to the bottom of this before unnecessarily purchasing the sensors.
