Soon to be 4.8is owner.

Post by dan.squires » Tue Mar 01, 2011 12:23 pm

Hi All,

I am Dan, I am 22 and I am currently buying a 2004 X5 4.8is.

I currently own a 2003 330ci sport but am fed up of sitting on the floor and being uncomfortable all the time lol. I have been looking for about 6months for one and finally the right one has come up.

I know the X5 isnt really a young persons car and alot of people will be thinking a 4.8 is too expensive to run for a 22 year old, but I work hard, get paid well and my passion is BMW's lol. Unlike alot of my friends whose passion is to go get trollied at a weekend, as I dont drink.

Anyway enough of the rambling and onto the car. It's a 2004 4.8is in Le Mans Blue with black knappa leather. I think the only think it doesnt have is the panoramic roof and the comfort seats both of which i would of liked but werent essential (although I have read on a few sites that the roof is more problems than its worth).

I am really pleased with the car I have found and cant wait to pick it up, I have already started asking for advice in the general E53 section lol.

Thanks for any help in advance anyone gives me,

Dan.

Welcome Dan..........curious to know what your insurance will be.

Good going to achieve this at 22yrs of age - assuming, of course, you arent a drug dealer LOL ;)

Lol I am definately not a drug dealer I condem that crap, I am an engineer for a defence company (I also work alot of overtime lol).

The insurance is just under £1400 with admiral with 3years ncb, 5 years driving and 3 points which I have nearly had for 5 years now (so not even on my licence), but still paying for them . Thats also with not using it for commuting as I get the train to work. Alot for some people to pay but like I said I dont waste my money on drinking down the town everyweekend lol. I like to have something nice I can see I have worked hard for.

Welcome Dan.
As AW8 put, insurance may be interesting, but looking at your current ride, that can't be cheap either.
Good to see a younger X owner. Enjoy your V8 ride.

Thats a good insurance quote for you. Plenty of people paying that for a lot less car. Nice choice, have fun

Congrats, and Welcome. There can't be many 22yr olds wih a 4.8 :D

Good thing you don't drink coz the 4.8 probably has its own serious petrol habit. Enjoy it though.

I was 22 once and I didn't do the drinking thing much then either. I also worked hard and bought more expensive stuff, it just all went down hill from then.

All I'll say is, fair play. No judgements from here, and you'll be able to afford all the mods the rest of us can't.

Not sure I can remember being 22 anymore :oldman:

Probably why I married a girl 12 years younger than me....... :D

You'll only ever find banter, help, advice and opinion here, never judgement. After all, when you own the road little else matters :driving: (Except getting rid of all the other people who get in the way :headbang: ).

Lol thanks good to be able to talk to some decent people on a forum.

The only mod I am looking to do is connect my iphone 4 some how, with the use of phone and music through the steering wheel. Apart from that it will be standard. I have had my modding days with my first car (20k of a poxy punto lol must of needed my head checking lol) and lost too much money, but I got it out of my system. Thats why I like my beemers as they dont need anything doing to them lol.

I was initially going to get an e46 M3 but after test driving a few there just wasnt enough diffference for me to justify spending the extra cash to have a car a slightly bit better than mine and look near enough the same inside. Which brought me to the X5 as its the only other car I have really wanted.

This will be my last mad car before thinking of marriage, kids etc. etc. and I have to grow up (well a lil bit anyway) lol.

You seem like a decent bunch of people unlike some forums I have been on before lol will be sticking around.

Cant wait to pick it up now :driving: and get some pics up :D

I bought mine when I was 24, I still love driving it now. I also got a good deal with Admiral which is partly the reason why I decided that I would go for it. I also don't drive mine to work either... its a long drive to where I work

I just turned 20 when I bought my 530d which is how I got hooked on BMW's... especially of that sort of age - some of them are starting to lose that quality feel in the new designs.

What is the spec of the one you are looking at?

Oh, do a search for Intravee on here. That is what you need to get good integration of your music although the 4.8is should have bluetooth anyway for you phone and phonebook. I just have a separate iPod that I'll leave in my car for the music.

The spec on the one I am going for is pretty good, it has the sat nav with digital tv function (which will probably never be used lol), it does have the bluetooth, Le mans blue with the black exclusive knappa leather, heated seats, the only things it doesnt have which I can live without is the comfort seats and panoramic roof. Cant remember if it had the DSP sound system in it or not got to check the left side compartment in the boot.

Its a 2004 one but has an X5 private plate which I am thinking of selling to get my own private plate depending on how much its worth.

Has 80k on the clock which was higher than I origanlly wanted but its so clean compared to others I have looked at with half the miles and alot more money. Its got alot of BMW reciepts with it too with full BMW service history. Has got nearly new michelins all round on it too where as most I had looked at had mismatched tyres (budgets mainly too) which too me shows the previous owners werent that bothered of spending proper money on the car.

Will have a look at the intravee, will the intravee mean you have to lose the cd changer?

Thanks.
