E53 jack for an E71?

Post by sapphireblack » Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:18 am

Any reason not to carry one, car weight is similar. E53 jack less invasive to space and easy to operate.

According to Realoem it is the same jack. Part number is identical. :D

That and it was another way to scam the emissions regs. Lighter car means less fuel burn and lower emissions. RFTs are a little heavier than non-RFT but even combined still less than a spare, jack and tools.

TBH, i hadnt thought to check part numbers but E70/71 are scissor type and bulky. My E53 had this type.

Might have been revised or replaced? Mine had a scissor. Could be worth checking the part number in Realoem to see what it was from. Looks like the one in our E46 - which probably also fits other models too.

Maybe they were changed, my car was early 2001. I've asked the seller for a part number but this suggests compatibility.

Mine is scissor type , i wouldn't be keen to use that other type had 2 fail on an e46 seemed to be near its limit on that car never mind a heavy x5/x6 though I guess the x5 one is a bit more sturdy. The lifting part is nylon and can't cope with any sideways movement or it will snap although the second time it just folded up ,gave a couple of creaks while winding it up and I stepped back as I guessed what was going to happen and down it crashed. :o
