new owner transmission problems
Post by pedro43 » Mon Nov 19, 2018 8:46 pm
Hi all I recently bought my new to me 2011 x3 f25 2.0d x drive, I purchased it privately with a little high mileage 120k.drove back home perfectly which was a 4 hour motorway drive. Now my problem. Since driving on normal roads I'm experiencing grinding/juddering at low speed such as parking whilst on full or nearly full lock. The forums are pointing me towards the transfer case, which in my mind pans out. I'm pulling fuse 26 as soon as I get a chance to try and diagnose. Does any one know if I can leave the fuse out for a while until I get parts organised with out doing any damage. Also is it normally just the plastic gear in the module, if the can be changed on the f25 or is it normally the module itself. or the transfer case complete.
I appreciate its a bit of an ask but was just trying to find out the common theme to these problems
further information
no warning lights on the dash
aftermarket 19" wheels fitted with non run flats. all tread depths the same. Tyre pressures by previous owner all over the place fronts really high ? ? now correct
many thanks in advance

Hi. Its f25, so fuse 26 trick will not gonna work. There are 2 fuses which controls the xdrive system and not easy to get to them. Its a 2nd gen of the xdrive so no plastic gear on in, its vtg ecu which is bold to t case. Its very very complex system vs x3 e83 xdrive. For me, typical transfer box issue. Judder/vibration on sharp turn at very low speed.

hi mate many thanks for the reply, just did the fuse 26 think lol that's maybe it didn't make any difference.
.so if the module cant be overhauled its a complete transfer box to fix ??
just for further info running 275/40-19 on rear and 245/45-19 on front all with same amount of tread on.
a few codes I've got out of it cf5408-message (mileage,276.4.
missing,receiver:transfer case,tranmitter:KOMBI.
if that shines anymore light on it.
many thanks peter

Yes. New transfer box. There is nothing you can do. We've done 100 of these. Internal system is gone. Be very careful buying used one. Its not plug and play on f25. You need to know how to read and write classification numbers, how to get calibration done etc. One mistake , the system freaks out and bmw dealer only at £2600 cost...

hi kkx5.
just watched a you tube video of an American guy refurbing his transfer box new bearing and chain because it had stretched. could it be that my module has gone faulty and that alone needs replacing and then programmed and calibrated etc . or is that not an option in Britain.

£760, exchange base for an faulty, remanufactured transfer box, new fluid, fitted, calibrated etc 12mth unlimited mileage warranty. We can also supply you or local garage with the unit on exchange base, but as i said, its not plug&play. Price is same, fitted or supply only. Search xdrive service on ebay.
