Having read your post earlier on in the thread it looks like your car was non factory nav and someone has fitted an aftermarket Chinese headunit in yours and put the original MID unit in the glovebox to reset the MPG , clock etc
I did the same when I had my E53
If you fit a better headunit, you will still retain the ability via your glove box.
I have just ordered a Kenwood DNX 5180dabs double din headunit which should arrive this week.
I've had a couple of Chinese units and they are not good
The Kenwood came out on top after I looked at the other decent makes, and comes with Garmin maps.
I bought a car this time without factory nav, as I have been disappointed in the past with OEM nav.

£80 for harness and soroumd and brackets, ( £30 dearer because I have an amp and sub )
