Re. the reset on the oil wear adaptations (in the VTG module) - you're all good to drive around until you can get someone or an Indy to perform the reset - no harm. Don't leave it too long though, or the reset isn't valid (oil is not new).
I used DIS to do mine - but it took 10x longer to get DIS configured and running on a laptop that it took to change the xDrive fluid!

In way of a brief update , tonight I got home a bit earlier and set about prep for this weekend:-
Car in air
Front wheels off
2.5 hrs latter !!!!!!!!!!
Managed to fight out the 16 yes ( 8 per side only ) rusted solid, no 8 mm Head left , falling apart self tapping >:( :(screws that hold the two lower steering splash guards >:(

Talk about a fight, I’ve changed a full set of discs and pads quicker.......
Despite wd40 hex drive sockets wire brush it boiled down to a set of mole grips to shift the little b@#£@ds
Good news I can now see all the nuts for the steel reinforcement panel, sprayed with wf40 and tested for access with sockets and spanner’s . Reminded myself this is for circa 800ml of diff oil .

Put it all back together and now ready for the weekend
If anyone else is trying to do this would recommend preparing the ground I’m hoping it will save me time.
Working on the floor with 3.5 tonne trolley jack certainly doesn’t help, a 4 post would make life a lot easier.
Update on Sunday I hope, if transfer case oil arrives I’ll do the lot.
Thanks to all for their advice so far -invaluable

At least you don't have to deal with that task on the weekend.

I'm really lucky down here - zero corrosion on any hardware under the car - it's like new - so I forget how nasty these "simple" tasks can become when even a single fastener removal goes bad.
I WAS freaking out a little when changing my glow plugs a couple of weeks back - I've read too many horror stories about snapped off plugs. Warm engine, some penetrating oil - no issues. Phew!!

I had a look and i do have the plastics but they are not fixed along the bottom.
You must be able to get your hand in there with it like that as they where never taken off when the steel/ally ? plate was removed.

They should be fixed. There are four plastic push retainers that hold down the two splash shields - three holding the lower edge of the lower shield and one holding the lower rear end of the upper shield.
They tend to shatter when removed so I'm guessing someone has removed them and not replaced them.

What i am saying is that you can get to the nuts with just the bottom un-clipped.
Might help somebody in the future doing this job.

Sorry Alan, I mis-read your post... :-[
I guess what you're are saying would work but given that removing the shield is just a handful of self tapers (into plastic or speed-nuts) it's a trivial task to remove them. Except in ttr's case! ::)
On the right side you also need to cut the two cable ties holding the cable to the height sensor and unplug the height sensor cable from the height sensor itself. I guess if you have a car with two-axle air susp. you'd need to do this on the left side too.
