X5 LPG battery questions??

Post by mjansari » Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:50 pm

Hello,

Yesterday my battery went flat in my 2003 X5 (after only 1 day of standing still on the driveway) and had to jump start it. I am guessing that it still has the original battery but as its underneath the LPG tank am not able to test or verify if it is the BMW original.

As I’ve only had the car for a month i do not know if the battery was replaced by the previous owner when the car was gas converted.

I have a couple of questions.

1. With the car having a LPG tank in how easy is it to remove and fit? how long to does it take to replace?
2. Is there any way of verifying if the battery is at fault without removing the LPG tank?
3. My previous car was an BMW 740 in which the interior/boot lights etc would automatically go off after a certain period of time. Does the X5 have a cut-off system like this. I am hoping that an light or electrical glitch caused it to go flat or is this a sign that the battery is on its way out.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi just changed out the battery in my mrs 4.4 with the donut tank in the boot, nice of bmw to put the battery in a nice easy place. It took me and my cousin 3 hrs to unbolt the tank then get enough room to ease the battery out.
You could put a meter on the jump terminals in the engine bay to see what voltage you are getting, not 100% sure if it would give the same reading as putting the meter direct onto the battery.
Have heard that the FSR can cause a battery drain may be best to get the codes read once its up and running again.
