Rear Entertainment retro fit

Post by S3RYK » Sun Oct 29, 2017 10:13 pm

Has anyone retro fitted the original DVD player and centre monitor to their E70? (Mine’s a 2012 40d M sport)

I see that they are readily available through breakers, but wanted to know how easy it would be to fit?

Have a look on REALOEM for the retrofit kit numbers and there should be a reference to a BMW EPA document.  Those are the fitting instructions.  If you have a friendly BMW Parts Dept they’ll either print it for you or email it.  :)

65509166783 - monitor
And
65129243265 - DVD player

But can’t find any reference to the EPA document....

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi the rear head rest mounts are just as good sold by BMW , one has a dvd player in the other a monitor , at least the kids in the back are looking straight forward instead of lower down on the centre console , they are easy to fit and a lot cheaper !

BMW retrofit kit no longer available (sold out) so the EBAs have gone too unfortunately  :(

They do still offer a tablet system which could be better and as said keeps them looking straight ahead at the right level.

I looked into this and then found a simpler solution...

2x ipads (cheap mk1s, android tablet will work just as well) with soft cases with velcro straps (go around the headrest poles). Bought a 1TB HDD with wifi facility, loaded 300+ films/tv on it. Ipads connect to local wifi network created by HDD, browse to required film (VLC is a good app for this) and can watch whatever they want. As they operate separately, they can watch different things at the same time. £200 for ipads, £100 for wifi hdd.

Totally removable, and transportable. Probably cheaper than a full retrofit...plus you've got 2 ipads for other uses when needed...

Looking to do this as well as recently purchased a RES, I have a 2011 40d msport, will this be a simple plug and play and power lead alr day there or will I need to buy and fit a harness to get power to the RES?

Just wondering the same if they are a plug and play...? or if additional wiring was required?

Given how BMW changed the way they load up vehicle wiring after the E53, you will almost certainly need additional wiring.  BMW have discontinued the official kit but you may be able to get the installation instructions from a friendly dealer parts team.

Hunt for it on Realoem using the last 7 of your VIN.  It will be under ‘Retrofittings’ and you need the relevant EBA number.

Dose anyone know where to buy one of these ?

I have got one fitted in my X5 but it's not working,  just thought it might be easier to replace rather than try and repair it
