Reserved an E70 40d with a staggered tyre setup.

Post by AdamsX5 » Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:53 pm

Hi I’m new to the forum. I’ve read about star rating and staggered tyres on here.
I’m viewing a car next week which has Bridgestone DL in front and a cheap make 315 on rear. I’m assuming the car dealer has changed them as if they are below 3mm they get changed.
My question is without risking the transfer box would it be wise to just order 2 Bridgestone dl for rear with exact size as front or any good make with same size as fronts to avoid this star fiasco.??
Would it risky to continue driving with them on. How can I explain this the to dealer as the car is on tires not compatible with he transmission.??

Not a BMW Dealer then?

Personally I would say these are not the OEM approved rubber and should be replaced with the right type.  You may be fine for a while, but if it drives erratically or has any noises from the transmission then walk away.

Any BMW Dealer will tell you and I think it is mentioned in the Owners Manuals or on line.

Will be test driving it next week so will see but I’m not really clued up to know what to watch out for.
If I like the car will probably just replace the rears as the service history is spot on with all recalls done and driveshaft replaced.  The dealer is non Bmw as you say and only gives 3 month warranty.
Bmw warranty wants £1500-2000 it’s over the 60k mileage so it will have to be warranty direct.

Was planning on just taking them off and replacing with like.

Might be interested. Let me see the car next week and if I buy it then may decide to change the rears if fronts are around 6mm too.
