High battery discharge
High battery discharge
Hi all
Got high rate of battery discharge today when I got in the x5. Code was 3EED which was read out by ista/d
Voltage was showing at over 15v at points which leads me to believe the regulator maybe shot. Anyone know where I can get one from?
Thanks

Re: High battery discharge
It could just mean your battery is dying and nothing wrong with the regulator. It may not be holding a charge.
What are the battery volts (read after 4 hours since last use and with the car asleep or you will get a wrong answer)?

Looks like a newish battery, it’s a 95aH Yuasa atm battery. It does go to sleep. Will have to check voltage with a meter

Re: High battery discharge
Is it an AGM battery, 15v is not far off the mark, if it's has a lead acid battery this may have been too much for it
As the car needs to be coded/ registered to the car, i.e. If it's a lead acid or an AGM needs to be registered to allow for the correct charge rate.
As X5Sport has mentioned , could be just a duff or old battery.
Battery problems can be a frustrating problem to sort out, good luck

I’ve checked the VO and it’s 100% coded for an agm battery. Will try get it to a battery place for them to check it all out

Looks newish....?, so does mine sat in the boot ::)....I reckon you have a sulphated cell so basically the battery is dying...

Re: High battery discharge
If you can find the date code number on the battery then use the link below to give you an idea of what year it was made. I found this for decoding (or at least trying to) Yuasa batteries.....

Re: High battery discharge
I get this message sometimes when the car stands for a few days. Normal in my eyes, these are machines with lots of electrical complexities. Using the boot unlock switch on the car when it is locked and you can hear all the clicks of the electrical systems.
I always carry jumper cables, just in case, but that is mainly due to previous BMW experiences with the E39.

Re: High battery discharge
I get the message, primarily due to lack of use
My car sits for three weeks at a time whilst I work away and gets little use when home
As such I use a battery tender to maintain battery health (just home car cleaned and plugged in)

Driving habits & Short stop start journeys will kill the batteries

Re: High battery discharge
I was getting this in the X6 and replaced it last year. No more messages.
If I sat in the car after driving with the radio on it would also show an error after a few minutes, that to me showed the battery was on its way out.

Re: High battery discharge
Given the X6 (well mine at least) draws 60A with the electrics on that kills a battery in under 30 mins.
I wonder much better the mpg would be without all of the modern electronics..... ???
