today, was not a very good day,
went over , drained the water out of cooling system ( making sure the system didn't leak test)., removed some pipes,  started putting rocker on,  rtv in appropriate places,  , moved a little pipe out of the way, but don't know where is goes , got rtv all over the place , then put new gasket on rocker to only realised the gasket was for the right hand side of the engine ,
tried to clean up the crap of the 3 weeks old original gasket , and all achieved was getting rtv everywhere, still don't know where this little thin pipe goes,
3 hours later I had lost the will to live, and was contemplating either scrapping it or setting fire to it.
so now I've got to buy another left side rocker gasket
I'm annoyed, VERY annoyed
so if any one near Leeds wants a crate of beer next weekend and can put on a m62 left side rocker cover let me know :)
and I know where that pipe goes, onto air duck near AFM

not done anything for a bit , my avensis passed its mot , so I can just drive this, any whoo, because my rocker covers are an absolute disgrace, ive decided to get my rockers powder coated, so on Saturday im going to remove the other side, and change the upper timing case gasket , as ive bought them anyway, so both upper sets of gaskets are going to be new, and as my tensioner is 4 years old ive bought another one of them too , no point putting old back in ,
ive ordered some WP gaskets so I can safely do that too,
price for rockers powder coating of the colour I want including dipping is 40 for both.  so I think that's ok
ill post before and after pics of these when I get time

Regards the tensioner, do not play with it and see how long it is when not under tension (as supplied).
I unlocked my new one to see the difference and could NOT get it to lock back up, was a sod to get in as was pushing against spring tension and it is a bit awkward to do (want double jointed wrists and fingers).

For your interest, I sprayed my M3 cover body colour, sprayed on Motor Sport coloured stripes (rattle can) then carefully rubbed down the shiney bits, lacquered the whole thing. That was about 14 years ago and it looks good today. Oh how I agonised over this cheap way of doing it but it has stood up well.
