engine carbon clean ? should i ?
Re: engine carbon clean ? should i ?
Is this "Terraclean", or something similar?
Re: engine carbon clean ? should i ?
Its not terraclean, I had it done on my e71, basically he turned up in a small van with a machine in the rear, put a pipe in the intake, I did ask what went in and he replied..."its mostly water"??? .
You are asked of any problems you have, which I had none...a diagnostic is undertaken...the machine starts, after a short while he jumped in the drivers seat started the car, hooked a laptop up, at this point he pointed out that my idle revs were at 8.75rpm which I saw on the laptop screen...he then keeps reving up the car to 2000rpm while watching the laptop screen..when the process is finished he turns the car off and back on...revs are now down to 7.1rpm and have been ever since....he said I probably wouldn't notice much difference due to how I've serviced the car...apparently if your vehicle is badly serviced you would notice a big difference.
Would I have it done again??...Yes probably as it did something, not only the revs but runs smoother.

I had a Terraclean done on my E46 330d. About 10mins into the process the operator asked me "What problems are you having?" I didn't have any, and told him so. His reply was a simple "Oh......" I didn't notice any difference in how the car ran after. IME £120 wasted.

I believe carbon cleans don't do much to cars. Walnut blasting however does a lot of difference. It is better to do walnut blast on diesels and direct injected cars - it may be a good idea for us to do it on our 120k miles X5 and the Audi due to that being a TFSI.
