3.0sd rumble from the front

Post by b21playa » Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:28 pm

Hi all

Getting some rumbling from the front at speeds over 30mph and increases with speed.

Has anyone ever experienced this and suggest anything!

Many thanks in advance

Is it worse if you turn the wheel slightly to the left or right? If it is it could be a wheel bearing.

If it's getting louder with speed and sounds like jet engine it will be wheel bearing.

Not that I remember. Will have to try again when I’m driving it next

How to identify which one or be 100% sure?

If it gets louder when you turn to the left it will probably be the drivers side bearing, louder if you turn to the right will be the passenger one.

Does it matter? It's not something you can fix yourself and garage should be able to identify it easy enough, but if you want to check for your self, best way is to put it neutral and raise and spin each wheel by hand. One that's gone should be obvious by different noise, failing that holding on to top of the strut will transmit excessive vibrations.

It does matter as I was hoping to change it out myself
