Hi guys,
My auto lights take ages to come on when the natural light fades away. Has anyone else had issue with their auto lights and is their a fix?
Thanks

Auto Light Sensor F15
Re: Auto Light Sensor F15
I've always found this a problem with BMW's, there should be / or maybe there is a setting in the IDrive to alter sensitivity of the sensors. It needs to be quite dark before they come on.
Also I've had a few BMW's with auto wiper function, and can never find that I can alter the wipe frequency to suit
Adequate vision., where as my VW and Kia are spot on.!!!!!
IS IT ME !!!!! Probably

Not any more! My M40i lights come on automatically when light levels drop, even with the light switch in the ‘off’ position. It drives me crazy, but apparently is a feature on all new BMW’s now, and can’t be deactivated.

Re: Auto Light Sensor F15
On my E53 the Dealer could reprogram a sensitivity setting for the lights so may be there still is one in a menu that you need Carly (or similar) to access. I might have a look and see if there is anything buried that Carly can alter.
I did have a driver selectable setting on the Škoda but even that couldn’t cope with mist or rain.
I’m intrigued about the new car and will have to check whether the Gran Tourer also overrides regardless of the light switch. It’s a good idea as it stops you driving on DRLs only. Something I see regularly these days.
The optical sensors on BMW have never been good at this. My new Gran Tourer uses the KAFAS camera for the automatic cruise control, but it stops working in low sun! That’s really clever - not. VW use radar instead, which works perfectly unless it’s chucking it down or snowing - when you shouldn’t use cruise control anyway.

Is it just me, or does the name "Gran Tourer" bring to mind a vehicle for an aged relative?

It probably does.....and I’m possibly approaching that age bracket (according to some less kind souls on here)
Perhaps it’s why they took the ‘d’ out of Grand.... )
