eventfull day :)
eventfull day :)
I did the passengers side upper timing cover gasket , wasn't too much of a pita, couldn't finish it off as I couldn't find the rtv sealant
the valve gaskets at the top were like hard plastic, really brittle , bottom was a bit hard but not as bad,
brand new water pumo had a squeak on the shaft, but when it was wet it went ,
only thing I have found it a slight lip of about 1mm between the cover and the block (cover being a tad higher) , and I cant get rid of it , new gasket should compensate .
plus here's the pulley with the nick in it

I wouldnt worry too much about the pulley, the belt wont hop off.
I probably caught a small stone at some point in its life.

I take it the chain guides filled you with confidence that they aren’t brittle and will break after you have sealed it all up?

Re: eventfull day :)
Are you talking about the fact that the cover sits 1mm higher than the rest of the cam cover? I had this problem and set a flat piece of wood on the timing cover, loosen the bolts and use a lever to push the wood down till level. Then tighten a couple of bolts to keep it there. I had to use a piece of hefty rope tied to the chassis to give me the ability to apply pressure to the wood. Of course you will need to use your other pair of hands to achieve this or the Mrs.

Re: eventfull day :)
yeah, if you look at the cover and the block from the side or feel with your finger it looks like the front cover just sits too high, I thought , it was ok , and the rocker gasket or in fact the actual rocker cover would push it down, ( if I tightened down the rocker first then tightened down the front cover) ive got to take it all off again, because i didnt put any rtv on the bottom of the cover,
so, ill re do it tomorow, ill stick rtv on keep the cover loose, then stick on the rocker then tighten up the front cover, and see how that goes

you put rtv sealant in the corners and on certain parts of the rocker head

Room Temperature Vulanising compound - silicone sealant to you and me
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: eventfull day :)
that too
well I got rained off, removed waterpump AGAIN . removed front cover, re aligned it properly , with the aid of a large screwdriver, applied sealant of appropriate bits, then totally destroyed the waterpump gasket getting it back on , I HATE the coolant pipes. whilst getting wet.
so today, all ive done , is been at the same point
got to wait for another dry day to finish it off

I didn't really fancy getting wet through ,
ironically I have a garage . but cant get into it , as there is a 330 coupe in front of it , and the garage is full of tools on the floor , and bits of a m62 engine top
