Anyone got aftermarket wheels?

Post by Digidick » Sun Aug 26, 2018 1:45 pm

Even though I like my 20” Style 333’s in a dark grey I fancy something different, perhaps a bit bigger?

Anyone fitted something different?

Anyone fancy a swap?
Mine have nearly new Dunlop’s so ideally want a like for like, don’t want to be spending loads extra replacing someone’s knackered Tyres but would pay more for something right.

I’ve not seen many with aftermarket

Think you’ll need to source them yourself rather than a swap deal

Yeah seems to be more of an American thing, lots on their forums.

I also think this site is a bit ‘careful’ not many people modding their X5’s, not talking big changes just subtle things.

X5 isn’t really a modding car scene

Hence why I also have a cheaper JDM car lol

Yeah had a Z4 for that before the X5, I’ll get something else again at some point.

I know it’s an e53 but gives you an idea, obviously you are going to sacrifice some ride quality but that’s an individual decision. Never owned a standard car for longer than it took me to get home

A major reason is that aftermarket wheels (as with most spares/alternative parts) have to be ‘E’ approved in order to be used on the road, and that means strict testing.

There were issues a few years back with aftermarket wheels cracking or shattering under load due to dodgy materials and poor design (form over function) which led to the rules being tightened.

In the US the rules are less strict so a larger market to play with, but get it wrong design wise, and they’ll sue yer ass!
