Anyone changed comfort access door handle?

Post by celica » Fri Aug 10, 2018 7:36 am

My driver comfort access door handle stopped working
I figured out this was draining my battery and so pulling the fuse has helped partially solve one issue

Just looking for feedback if it’s an easy swap over?

Anyone have a spare working one in black? :)

I once took one out to visually check the wiring, then put it back in. It’s relatively simple, if a little fiddly in places.

When you open the door you’ll see a rubber bung that covers a torx bolt - undo that and that’s all that’s holding the handle in. You’ll need to slide the end piece (the bit that doesn’t pull out when you pull the handle to open the door) out first, then you can manoeuvre the handle out.

Replacing it is a bit more fiddly as you have to locate the mechanism correctly so it will engage with the catch in the door. It’s a bit like assembling a puzzle at times, but not a difficult one.

<edit> one other thing - keep the door open the whole time. I don’t know for a fact that closing it would be bad, but I didn’t like the possiblity of having a door that was closed and could no longer be opened because the handle wasn’t on.

New to the forum so Hi.

Have the same issue on my vehicle (access not working and getting 'High Battery Drain' message), but wanted to know if you were looking to change the external handle or inner (inside the door) parts to cure the problem?

Thanks

Worked this one out for myself on discovering the exterior handle was hot to touch.  :o

Removed the handle and disconnected the wires to temporarily solve the problem.

Anyone know the approximate cost I could expect to pay for a new 'Comfort Access' handle?
