Halfords Vs BMW Battery

Post by SurreyX3 » Wed Jun 13, 2018 8:57 pm

Hi,
After 4y, my F25 battery is showing signs of death.
The BMW Battery is over £400 and the Halfords equivalent is about £120, which means I could buy one every year!
What's the difference, and does anyone have a recommendation?

BMW always put a significant mark-up on spares and their ‘rebadged’ products.  I would not be surprised if the OEM batteries are actually someone like Varta in the EU.

Yuasa make good batteries too.

Check whether or not you have an AGM type - used for cars with Start/Stop - as you need to stick to that chemistry, and they are more expensive (even Halfords ones).  AGM chemistry batteries have specific charging voltages which a conventional lead/acid battery will not like at all.

You will need the AGM BATTERY AS IT NEEDS TO BE CODED INTO THE CAR AND REGISTERED WITH THE ECU, the ecu logs the battery replacement and alters current flow to the battery.

Without using a AGM and doing a reset you are askin for a world of pain later down the line.

Thanks. Both the Halfords and the BMW batteries are AGM.
Sounds like it's worth trying the Halfords one.

Well, can't say I'm impressed that the BMW battery managed under 4 years.
Just discovered Halfords are doing a 950A 105Ah Yuasa for almost half the advertised retail price: 260 Vs 4 something. I'm going to try this one out.

I recommend taking a look at Tayna - https://www.tayna.co.uk/

They offer a choice of brands at unbeatable prices, and very quick delivery.
