Had the car a few days now and I’m impressed.  Sure, it’s isn’t going to set the world alight (unlike a Zafira) and is a bit boxy but it is very smooth to drive.  The 8-sp auto is very good and the 190bhp engine seems to have plenty of go.

It’s well screwed together and has lots of toys to play with. The WiFi Service is now on - 1GB for the first month is free after which it is €9.95/3GB pcm with boosts up to 10GB for a single €24.95 payment.  Data rate is 10MB in/2MB out maximum.

The Sports seats are comfortable - significantly more so than the standard seats - but not as good as ‘Comfort Seats’ - which aren’t an option below an X5.

The new iDrive is very clever and great to use.

Still learning how to drive the clever stuff.  The local Dealer are sending their ‘Genius’ rep out to talk us through everything.  It says a lot if modern cars have so much tech on board that the handover needed three people!  One to cover the paperwork, another for the Towbar and bike rack and a third for a quick run through the on board tech.

I dread to think how many are needed to service the thing!

Or is it the lacquer has gone milky already on the journey over :))

Or it could be the protective film will help avoid the stone chips

Bit late to the party, but it does look like a nice toy. I an understand the need for the plastic seat covers for a man of your age  :))

Enjoy the ride and yes, those wheel barrow connections could be mighty handy if you ever have to move it on the drive  :))

Done 1,000 miles in it now and we’re both very impressed.  It handles very well - even for a ‘van’ around the twisties, is comfortable, loads of room, the new iDrive is very good and better than any other system I have used, surprisingly quiet, economical at almost 50mpg, and even though has only 190bhp/400Nm torque is quick.  The ‘sport gauges’ are quite fun - for five minutes.

Will start to stretch it’s legs over the next couple of weeks and get the oil changed.

Still haven’t found how to get the DAB station ‘track playing info’ showing in the split screen though.  The X6 has it, as did my Škoda S3, but this one only shows the station logo.  I suspect that although the iDrive has the top of the range system for the 1/2/3 series in it, there are some display options that only appear on the ‘pro’ version used on higher range models.

The on board WiFi is expensive to run so have bought a separate (much faster) 4G+ MiFi unit.  If the dealer had told me that I would be locked in to a built in sim I would not have bothered.  VW definitely have the edge on this as they just give you a sim slot to use whatever network you want.

Overall it’s a much better car than the Škoda, and at about the same price (due to the BMW Discounts we got).

@Sid10 - I can’t keep tother half out of it either - unless it’s a sunny day when she takes her convertible.  >:(

Must be the new light clutch in it  >:D

Did you go for the auto parking option by the way? I still have to try that with mine.

#&@%!! clutch!!  I hate you..... :P

It’s an automatic (they all are if MSport & 20d twin turbo engine chosen)!  Japanese Aisin 8-speed (Toyota) and as good as the ZF in terms of how it changes gear.  Toyota got a licence for use of the N47 engine - the one that breaks timing chains - for their Avensis.

There is a 7-speed ‘twin clutch’ (sounds like a DSG to me) but there is no way I’m choosing that box anywhere again.  VW Dealers have a very crude phrase for the box family!

Yes it has ‘Park Assist’ but no I haven’t been brave enough to try it either.
