Post by dave48 » Fri Jul 06, 2018 5:14 pm

Hi
Still trying to get to grips with my new (used) 2010 x5 I drive 40d.
Voice control does not respond, even with a simple command like "radio on"
Also unable to set the language setting to short command, option not available to me.
Anybody help??
Dave

Are you sure it is fitted?  They all have the button on the steering wheel regardless of the option.  Check your build via your vin on bmwvin dot com.

Hi xs sport
You to the rescue again, thanks.
Yes, I' m sure it's fitted as when I give a command I get a reply like "repeat command" or "switch on telephone" or "cancel"
Seems to be working but should I be in a particular menu item?

I found it to be very picky about commands. It seems to have a specific syntax and if you don’t use it as written in the Owner’s Manual, it gets it knickers in a twist.

It should work in any mode regardless of what the iDrive is currently showing.  :)

I’ll have to go and switch mine on in the morning, but I thought it worked in ‘Radio ready’ too.  If it reacts to the button, then it should work.  I found I needed to say it exactly as it is written in the manual or it kept asking me to repeat!!

I got fed up with the blasted thing and gave up with it  :(

The one in my Škoda Superb 3 was as poor and I’ll be interested in how well the one in our new 220Dx Gran Tourer behaves when we pick it up in a couple of days.  Perhaps it is ‘accent dependant’!  >:(

Voice Control (option code S620a) got much better after 5/2012 (I think that's the approx date).  I think the voice command/control option got better when it was incorporated into the NBT upgrade that occurred around that time (CCC > CIC > NBT).

If you do a YouTube search for the NBT Voice command...you'll see videos of the upgrades operational "enrichment".  :)

The voice control commands prior to the NBT (next best thing) upgrade need to be more precise (as others have already mentioned).  If you have your VC instruction booklet...you can refer to it for better accuracy.  If you don't have the VC instruction booklet...you can easily find the VC commands to use doing a google search...make sure you are using the commands used for the CIC system you have.  If you try to use the "more relaxed" commands that the NBT system uses...then you'll still be frustrated.

Good luck.
