x5 audi key replacement?

hi guys,
ive recently switched to an e53 X5 from an A4 and really really dislike the key.
an odd thing to hate i know......!

i was wondering if there was a way to possibly replace it with an audi flip key like this one?


has anyone got any experience with this and how hard it might be?
also where in london can i get the key cut? is it only the stealership that cuts keys?

Hi and welcome to the fold.

The key bit is fine but would have thought the electronics side not so as so much data is held by the keys and are very bespoke i feel.
Bet stealers would throw a gasket if you took another key type in :O)

Good thing to bring up though as Audi ones are neat.

hmmm.... how about an e70 key?
i dont mind having to yank the key out everytime i want to start the engine.

I think all Beemer keys store much data, like recent trip lengths and all manner of stupid ness but importantly they hold car mileage and fault info so best you focus on a Beemer key.

Bypass the lot and go remote starting would be easier if it works !

thanks mate, but i reckon thatll cost me more than i want to spend. not that i have any idea how much that costs.......

i wonder if the E70 key idea will work though.
