Ouch !

Post by bullethead » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:18 pm

Well I just got a proper shock when talking to a dealer he offered me 7k for my X. I new it wasn't goin to be good news but having looked through glasses and comparing prices of cars sold locally I thought the worst would be 8-8.5k and that I would've taken.. :x

Doesn't surprise me matey. I bought our 4.6is in september 07 for £22k. When I took it back in march 08 to talk aboit chopping it in against a new e70 they offered me 15k. Thing that annoyed me was that it would have gone back on the forcourt for £22k all day long. I tend to stay away from the stealers now, can't agree on their servicing / labour costs compared with the quality of work that I get at my local indy, at about half the price. Try and sell private mate. Estoril 4.6's are quite an attractive purchase to some people...

I got offered £14k for my E53 in November which I thought was not bad. We did eventually decide to keep the car rather than trade it as part of the X6 deal. The Dealer told me that there was a depreciation of about £600 per month at that time, and that there was more demand for diesels given the fuel price, even though there were more diesel engined X's about.

I px'd my 320d on a 56 reg against my x5 and I got over a £1000 less than Id been offered elsewhere. I think my x5 would have sold itself though so it didnt matter to the dealer whether I bought it or the next punter did grrr

everyone wants something for nothing :(

Who offered you that mate?
Anyone that has a big engined car now a days is best off keeping it and getting LPG conversion done. Big engined cars just aren't selling at the moment due to the petrol price and if they do sell, it's for a stupidly low price. Did anyone see the news today saying that if petrol continues to rise at it's current rate it won't be to long until it's £2 a litre! :o

I got offered 14k for mine in December. I'm not surprised about some of the prices offered though bullethead. They think they are taking on a risk by taking a big engined car, it might not sell in these hard times. To me its a load of crap... you have to seriously start thinking about breaking it when prices offered are that low! You'd get £1500+ for your gearbox alone, then there is engine, interior, sat nav, xenons, etc etc

That's exactly what I said and was told " Oh well thats a bit extreme". Yeah it is, but I don't really need to sell, definately don't want to sell ;) and for that money I ain't gonna sell.
Watch out for more posts might be breaking it soon :(

Did you sell to the dealer or have you sold it private for that? What are the plans for replacement?

Sold it to a dealer. Can't be arsed with tyre kickers round me house would probably end up being rude to em.
Went and stuck deposit on a pug 308 GT, giving it to her indoors and I'm having her Citroen C2. Combined the 2 are still a corsa short of the X :(
Now for the fun bit, retaining and transfering the plates. Another £210 to dvla for sweet f a. :x
Oh and got offered £150 for the metro...Scrap, happy with that.
