A warning or an Opportunity & Goodbye

Post by allanhelen » Wed Apr 11, 2018 11:20 am

Guys

As many of you will know I've had a torrid time with my car and today is my last full day of ownership as all being well it gets traded in tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about this as I love driving the car but it has been such an expensive pain in the arse that it has just pushed me too far and also after many years loyal years pushed me away from a BMW as my main car.

So i just thought I would post this in case anyone is in the market for a black, 7 seat E70 4.8i with huge spec black leather, 74K on the clock and a full history that my old car will be knocking around the used car market very soon.

So this is either a warning to avoid or possibly an opportunity if you believe there is nothing left to go wrong.

in the last 12 months the car has literally had 10's of thousands spent on it. just to give you an idea of what i can remember at the minute;

New pads and discs all round
Full set of * run flat tyres
Aircon condenser
New battery
New front and rear wipers
New Bi-Xenon Active headlamp
New rear air springs
New water pump
New rear differential
New timing chain guides
New fuel tank and vent
New rear inner LED lights
New complete cylinder heads and gaskets x2 (this was £16K of work alone)
All engine Gaskets replaced
Full major service, Oil, filters, Coolant, Power steering fluid, brake fluid, aircon recharge and spark plugs
New coolant hoses
New engine bay fuel lines
New Exhaust clamps and fittings
4 Wheel Alignment
3 oil changes in the lat year as a result of some of the work above

That's all i can think of right now but that is more than enough for a lifetime never mind a year.

This car is either going to continue to be a complete pain in the arse for the next owner or it going to run faultlessly for years but you have been warned so if you come across it and are tempted you know the facts and can make your own judgment.

So anyway the next bit is goodbye from me and thanks for all the help over my ownership, I'll be heading back over to the Z4 sister forum again as that is one BMW i wont be parting with anytime soon.

If you keep it it will continue to cost a fortune.

If you sell it the next owner will do 250,000 miles without spending a penny. Such is life.

Good luck with the Z4 as they are good to drive and esp as summer is due sometime soon.

Just to update now the car is no longer my problem the Reg is YP07HKX.

HERE IT IS FOR SALE!!! https://www.mallyvillecarsales.co.uk/used-cars/bmw-x5-4-8-48i-se-5dr-willenhall-201805046194319

Under new data protection rules all documents that carry personal details can’t be passed on with the car so if you are the new owner I have all the old invoices so if you want them and details of the work feel free to PM me.

All the recent work was carried out by Sandal BMW in Wakefield and they know the car very well in case you have issues.

Also I can’t stress this enough if you buy the car make sure the first thing you do is get the BMW insured warranty YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

Glad to hear you are sorted with the disposal.

I did not realise that the new data laws would have the effect of not allowing old invoices to go with a car. Do you know if that can be waived by the seller as I have always liked to buy a vehicle with such history and sell mine on likewise?

Doesn’t exactly do the used market any favours, oh yes sir it has full history with lots of invoices I can show you them but then I would have to kill you, lol.

Apparently as long as it doesn’t carry any personal information such as name and address then it is fine. (But that seems crazy as when you sell the car your details are on the V5 anyway)

The car had a big history and only about half the documents that did not have any personal details went with it.

Maybe traders will mellow in time but as the new rules have only just come and this was a big dealer so they seem paranoid and erring on the side of caution.

Well hopefully they will learn to redact the personal details Name and first line or two of address and then be happy to let paperwork go with the car. Having receipts for work done specifically listing details on an invoice is worth money when selling. This is especially true when work is other than standard service with a stamp in the book.

I guess as I like to buy less run of the mill vehicles this is more important to me as opposed to someone buying a 3 year old current model. Of course one day that car may be a bit more interesting and paperwork going back to day one could be money in the bank.

Progress, one step forward two back sometimes.
