Drivers side heater cold passenger side hot

Post by 30boz » Sat Mar 17, 2018 3:03 pm

Hello. I've got a 54 plate 4.4 v8 that's got a problem with the heating

The passenger side is fully controllable hot and cold work as they should. The drivers side, however is only 'warm' no matter what, even if set to 32.

The heater controls are a bit dodgy. You have to press the fan button a lot to make it work, but it does work. Max air con button doesn't work at all. All other buttons are fine.

Thanks for any advice

your problem will be the heater valves/solenoids in the engine compartment. There are two of them, obviously one for each side in the interior. You need some new ones or get second hand from a breaker

Thanks for that.

What does one look like and roughly where are they in the engine bay? Stupid question but the one that's cold is the nackered one? I was willing to bet the problem would be buried in the dash somewhere so I'm relieved to hear it isn't !

Thanks for the link to the part. I take it it's dump the water to fit?

You can pinch the hoses if careful with mole grips. I usually put a piece of plastic or thin wood either side of the hose then pinch that with the mole grips, obviously less coolant loss. Also if going down that route then undo the filler cap so as to relieve any pressure in the system. The valves are located on passenger side of inner wheel arch wall, Remove power plug, undo hoses, wriggle valve block out. simples.
