Hi Reush my opinion on this is you pay for what you ask for and extra work which has been agreed.
If I was doing a job for a customer I would never do extra without prior price and permission.

I believe this is the same engine that is fitted to the Mk4 VW R32. Stretched timing chain is a well known fault with this engine, the stretch can be checked on VCDS by measuring the cam angles. Research in USA suggested the chain stretched in the areas where the manufacturer had stamped it with make and numbers.

- That's weird. I've never known a chain literally "stretch", they normally increase in length due to wear on the rollers/bushes, which "appears" as stretching.Research in USA suggested the chain stretched in the areas where the manufacturer had stamped it with make and numbers

When I was a forklift truck engineer we used to check the lift (mast) chains with a gauge, stretch allowed was maximum of 3%, the wear was usually in the cross pins and you could get hold of the chains and physically feel the wear.

It isn't Colin £360 a pittance really compared to the last bill seriously thinking about getting rid soon and going the lease route.

Re: £1500-£2000 Repair Bill
Hi
Sorry to her about the latest problem with the fuel pump. I know it s not much consolation but I had one go on my 2008 135i and that was £575 to replace it.
So it probably in line with the general price level for these things, and you do know it's sorted properly.
You mentioned the lease route and its becoming more attractive for a lot of people as you don't have to worry about repairs. Some cars don't just have a 3 year warranty some even have up to 7 years, so there is definitely a case for going that route providing you are happy with the monthly cost, but again there are a lot of deals to be had.
I think it works well as our cousin has a small budget and so now leases a small Suzuki for £99 per month and so she knows her outgoings. Where as her previous corsa was going to cost over £700 to repair the engine on a '02 corsa just wasn't worth it.
