Egr question

Post by chelsea » Fri Mar 09, 2018 5:31 pm

I have just had a stage 1 remap with EGR delete on the truck.....absolutely turned it into a different car altogether!
Question is, should I now remove the egr etc and blank off along with the swirl flaps?

cheers

Would definitely get in there and remove the flaps. Egr won't do any harm. I had my own manifold and egr  off today for the annual clean. Was amazed to find both were almost as clean as a whistle. I have been using Dipetane in my home heating and Ray burn cooker for a number of years now and last year decided to add it to the E70 as well. It definitely works as a soot preventative and a few more mpg as well.

Hi,
Yes have ordered the swirl flap blank kit and I think I may as well get the egr complete blank off kit off ebay whilst I am under there, may as well because it won't be used again !

Did my first motorway journey of 90 miles today and it is returning a respectable 34 mpg between 70mph and 80 mph now it's been mapped (29 before), but it is still falling short of my old 5 plate E53 which did 38 mpg at 80mph (mapped also). My thoughts are that the DPF on this e70 is strangling the mpg a bit?
cheers

E53 was a far nicer car to drive. The E70 with the remap and those horrid runflats gone makes a job of it.

I agree, sold my old 2005 e53 yesterday with 150k on it and it was still like a sewing machine, my 09 e70 does not feel as refined, sure, its quicker and looks the part, but the overall impression so far is they cut some costs on this model, feels more like a car and not the truck it is!
I'm still getting used to it I guess, but before I had the remap I was a bit disappointed after waiting 3 years to afford one.
If it had not been that the re-map totally changed the car, and turned it into something a lot more interesting then I was ready to flip it (brought very cheap!) and keep the E53.....haha....the guy who brought the E53 commented that I looked sad to see it go.

Just so much cheap plastic on the E70 and too many design faults. My wife came back from shopping first day out after the recent snow with both headlight washer nozzles missing . This is a well known and documented fault but getting them replaced out of warranty is a big no. They freeze up easily at sub zero temps and when you wash the windscreen off they go never to be seen again. Other design fault I've had recently is the AC not working through the vents as it should. Some bright spark at bmw designed a big cylindrical fan with no less than 13 motors attached to it to operate all the vents. Problem is only 1 motor can be got at without removing the whole dash. First one I took out was completely corroded inside ( made in Mexico ) . Not a too expensive part but 1-2 days work in removing the dash. Can you imagine taking this to bmw to get done ! ( take down your trousers and turn around Sir )
If I were back again I would have kept my low milage E53 .

If you keep your washer fluid mix strong enough for the temperature range, you should never have issues with frozen jets.

You can’t blame BMW for that one.

Didn't have it mixed. Full gallon from Halfords straight in and they claim it works down to minus 10. Lowest temp we had here last week was -3  which is a long way off the mark. While the plastic is being mentioned , I came home this evening and put on the electric brake and the switch came away in  pieces. This is the second one in less than 12 months so hopefully will have warranty. Replaced the idrive switch 2 weeks ago . The list just goes on and on ! My E70 has only 50k mls on it.
