Bought another X5, couple of Qs! DYNAVIN INSTALL

Post by Motor84 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 9:54 pm

Only just picked it up so only one pic, more to come. Loving it! Coming from an F25 X3. Quite different!

I wonder if you guys can help with a couple of things:

1. The spec says 'Preparation, mobile phone, Business' but there is no Telephone function in the menu and I can't see a bluetooth module. Is this something else?

2. Same for BMW ASSIST. Its on the options list but not on an option on my screen.

The DVD unti is just loose in the spare wheel well. Looks like the previous owner may have had something else plumbed in.

I'm interested in getting a new nav unit and maybe a reverse camera. Is there a whole system? Whats the best? Don't mind spending a bit to get something nicely integrated.

There’s one or two different options for stereos that fit and look original, I’m going for one of these https://dynavindirect.co.uk/select-your ... 53-bmw-x5/

There’s a few folk on here with the previous model - the N6 that had good reviews. I basically wanted something that didn’t look out of place, had bluetooth streaming, iPod, DAB etc and worked with the DSP amp - check if you’ve got DSP or not as it can make things more of a pain.

Bear in mind if you change the head unit and want to retain the ability to change your clock time or reset fuel consumption figures etc, you will need to relocate your MID unit to the glovebox or keep the old head unit and leave the cable down by the passenger footwell so you can plug it in, you can relocate the original widescreen unit to the boot but it’s a lot of work.
I’ve got a reversing camera in the number plate holder that needs fitting in readiness for the Dynavin but I’m in the middle of a few other jobs at the moment.

No doubt others will chip in with their preferences shortly

I have never tried any Dynavin products, but the Android head units made by Eonon and Seicane do much more. There is also an adaptor now to interface the I-Bus so that you can do all the MID / OBC functions via the screen. Depending on what navigation or MID you have now and if you have a DSP amplifier will determine how much cabling you need to do. I had no nav and no DSP, just the MID and basic radio/single CD, so installation was a few of hours. If you have the MID there is some modifying you have to do to the plastic framework, but easy enough to do. Lots of information at this address: http://crowz.narmir.com/vehicles/bmw-x5 ... tion/  Including a link to the additional I-Bus module.

Thanks guys, yes that is exactly what I need! It has to look right, and the Dynavin one does. Love the fact you can have your steering controls and OBC settings on it too. sleepyfolk, looking at the website looks like oyu can get all your OBC controls running, I'll call them to to confirm. I'm not too good with fitting this stuff, plus always busy so might have to get someone to fit it.

My car has the factory Nav, I'll take a photo of the stuff in the boot and post tonight.

Thanks again.

I bought a dynavin n6 for my wife's car, an SLK. Worked ok, the screen could gave been better, but it did the job. For 3 years,  before the screen failed. Now it's just a white screened, unresponsive,  silent bit of plastic which has had to be removed.

Spoke to Daynavin today. Very helpful. They confirm that with this one lot:

https://dynavindirect.co.uk/select-your-car/dynavin-n7-e53-bmw-x5/
https://dynavindirect.co.uk/select-your-car/dynavin-dvn-ilink-apple-carplay-module-for-n7-platform/
https://dynavindirect.co.uk/select-your-car/hd-waterproof-wide-night-vision-car-rear-reverse-camera/

I can have:

• The full function of the main unit.
• Reverse display hooked up to my sensors.
• Steering controls hooked up.
• Reversing camera.
• Apple Carplay module hooked up so I can have access to my apps. Google Maps, Spotify etc.

Supplied and professionally fitted £1139.00. I will have to drive to their place in the Midlands but I think its worth it.

Think I will go for it. It will revolutionise the in-car experience!

Decided against the rear screens for the kids, everything is on Netflix these days right!

Finally had time to have a poke around. There is an amp in the back! Doesn't seem to be hooked up though as the sound system seems pretty normal. Any idea what this could have been for? No evidence of a more speakers of sub woofers etc.

Not sure what they’ve done in there, I think that’s the sat nav dvd by the spare wheel, should be above the cd changer and the the little box at the top might be the Bluetooth module, but I’m not 100%!

If you do go ahead, make sure you give us some feedback on the N7, I’d be interested in your thoughts as I’ve not heard of anyone getting the new unit yet. Thought I might be the first before I decided to do a load of underneath work such as brakes etc

Maybe he had a different head unit in therewith bluetooth and good sound. Anyway, I would rather have properly fitted up to date stuff rather than repurposing potentially shoddy work. Going to call Dynavin today to book in. I will certainly keep you posted!

Re: Bought another X5, couple of Qs! DYNAVIN INSTALL

Post by Motor84 » Thu Mar 08, 2018 3:07 pm

Ok, I'm booked in to have the the nav unit, Apple Play and Reverse camera installed on Monday 19th. I will send a full report afterwards! They reckon on 4 hours to install. Would take me 4 days with lots of nuts and bolts left over if I did it.

The DAB arial is mounted inside the front window. The guy reckons a proper Shark Fin would be better. Another £180!  Anyone had bad experience with the window mounted one? I'm think whilst I'm there I should have it done!! I'll be skint after this.  :'(

My Dab aerial is on the window and no problem at all. It saves having the roof drilled for a sharkfin.

I think it’ll take me more than 4 hours! I gather the N7 was supposed to have a better tuner anyway, not heard of anyone drilling the roof yet - you could always be the forum Guinea

Have had the N7 fitted for some time, TV is very good, DAB is excellent, I fitted a roof mounted aerial, nightmare to do, 3 skin layers on the roof trying to drill through two layers with a bigger hole than the final one through the roof was nerve racking as you only really get one go. Reverse camera comes on with reverse selected and also displays the PDC. Have voice control (once it seemed to learn my N Irish accent) can read my messages to me and send texts dictated to it. I am thinking of adding car play so will be interested to hear how that performs. If I had a complaint it would be the angle of the screen on bright days.

Thanks henrym3, great to hear a positive review. Looking forward to seeing how the Car Play works. Thought I had a sharkfin already but must be thinking about my old E46. If I can't just swap out a sharkfin I doubt I'll be having holes drilled. You are a brave man!!
