BMW X5 gearbox

Hi all I had the dreaded "trans safe program" error come up on my e53 x5 it's got the 5 speed GM auto box fitted to it. it now won't drive at all. I have been quoted £3000 to fix it witch is about what my car is worth. I have heard the box out of a e39 530d is the same box just with the transfer box bolted to the back of it dose anyone know if it's true

Have a look at Realoem and check part numbers.

You can get a recon box for less than half the figure you have, but it will need fitting.

There's a company in Liverpool that has been used by a couple of members, one from Scotland too, sorry can't remember his name, but was well impressed with the price and service he received (£ 1500 ish I think ,)

defo sure it is the box and not the transfer cog thingy (£15), and a recon box fitted is approx 2k, look around.
