BMW Warranty

I have a 55 plate X5 4.8 and I was thinking about taking out the BMW warranty befoer it ticks over 60000 miles.

They're looking for just under £100 per month with a £250 excess which doesn't seem too bad. But I was wondering what they are like for claiming. Do people have issues when claiming for issues?

If you think you have an issue do you have to pay for the time to diagnose and then pay the excess if an issue is found?

Does the car have to be 100% stock otherwise they will void any claim? I was thinking about having the car remapped but if any warranty claim would be null and void then this is pointless.

I've just replaced all the air suspension and had the alternator replaced so I can't think of anything common that fails that would be less than a few hundred which makes the warranty worthwhile.

I have a 2007 4.8i and they have paid out many, many thousands in repairs on my car, in fact it is at the dealers again right now hopefully being fixed again.

To make it completely hassle free a full BMW history is ideal but provided the car has a full stamped history and services in line with the manufactures recommendations and all the detailed invoices then they accept this too. They also only pay out up to the purchase price of the car so you need an invoice to show how much you paid if it is an expensive repair.

So far for me there has only been one instance where it was touch and go if they paid up but they did pay in the end.

one down side to the warranty of course is that the work has to be done by an Authorised BMW dealer so anything not covered by the warranty during a repair (such as hoses or fluids) then you are paying premium prices where you may personally may have opted for non BMW branded parts. Also if your car is in a million pieces and the warranty decide not to pay up you are stuck with full BMW dealer prices to fix it where you may otherwise have gone to an Indy.

In terms of paying, you authorise the dealer to do the investigation if they find fault and the warranty pays then you just cough up the excess when you collect your car, if they don't pay then you are liable for the cost

One final point that I have noticed is that whenever my car goes in for repairs it always seems to take days to fix. I think this is a combination of the dealers preferring to make quick money with regular servicing jobs over warranty work and the dealers waiting for authorisation from the warranty to carry out the fix.

I personally don't regret getting the warranty, for me it has been great value for money i do however regret buying the bloody car in the first place
