Big End Bearings Gone - Engine Rebuild or Replacement?

Post by rickz » Wed Feb 28, 2018 9:46 pm

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately, I've been told my big end bearings have done and the car will require an engine replacement or rebuild.

Will just try and sell the car as it is but if not, can you guys recommend any good engine re-builders or someone to do an engine replacement?

i'm just going to fix it and get rid...had enough!

Any idea as to the cause?  Oil pressure loss?

No ideas on the cause as of yet as haven't dropped the sump yet.

It's a 2010 X5 40D M Sport.

How did you get on?

Surely it isn't worth very much as a non-runner, better to get it fixed?

My first call would be to PMW in chelmsford, essex to get their opinion on your next step forward. A fantastic Indy with a great reputation in my eyes. ( I live 50 miles away so they are not my local option)

I sold it as it was...got around £11k for it as it was so not bad at all!

I've got a F01 7 Series for now which is a lot smoother but I'm sure it won't be long till I'm back in another X5
