My name is Nick and am currently in the process of selling my wife's Landcruiser Amazon and replacing it with an X3 of 2013/4 vintage. The Amazon is used for taking herself to work and pulling our large twin axle caravan which is also been sold. So a smaller more modern ride is on the cards. Looking forward to reading up on the problems and niggles associated with the X3 but hopefully there wont be too many, any tips on purchasing a 2013/4 X3 would be welcomed...

Not long joined myself and only had the X3 (13 plate) less than a month but boy,what a machine.
I opted for the 3 litre as personally, I found the 2 litre just a little bit short given the size of the vehicle. No regrets!
Whatever engine you go for I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Its one helluva car.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've not heard of many probs with the newer X3 but any issues would be posted on that section of the forum. A lot have gone for the 2.0d and find this okay and good on fuel, others have bought the 3.0d which they have said makes the car very responsive on the road.

One thing to be aware of with any diesel is the dpf filter blocking up if short journeys only, as it doesn't regenerate to clean the filter as this is more common now on earlier X5 e70 2007-2013 cars. So as yours is newer that would be unlikely.

Also on the newer cars retro fitting options seems to be more complicated requiring modules and costly. So if you want say a heated steering wheel make sure you find the car with it, as on an E70 it was over £2k to retro fit, but as an option when the car was ordered it was about £275.
