This Weekend Work - Rear Wiper Upgrade

Post by ttr » Mon Feb 12, 2018 11:39 am

All,

I know this has been covered before but its such an easy mod and cheap ( suits a Yorkshireman !) and looks great in my opinion.

Pics below - old v new pleased with outcome for £9.90.

Tints delayed over holiday as out of time  - but they are next on list.

Cheers

Lee,

Unless you're doing it yourself, Mark at Automotive Solutions also does tinting.

Eh up.

its from eay BMW x5 e70 rear windscreen arm 7 wiper id 322551793046 , i double and tripled checked it fitted the E53 before i bought one.

Looks better and works better than the original, just a bit shorter on the overall wiper pattern.

is this the exact copy of the genuine e70 wiper? Been looking at a genuine item but it’s £50

My eBay wiper “upgrade” lasted one visit to the car wash, good job I kept the old one  :))

Luigi s

Cannot say if its an exact copy or not, its plastic base and does the job i need for a £10.00.Its solid enough for a rear wiper function - as sleepyfolk says time will tell on durability.

I fitted one of those a few months back. Like you I prefer the look of it, but its going to have to go - the spring is weak, and it no longer cleans the middle section at all!

Re " the spring is weak", isn't that the fault of the arm?
Or did the conversion for £10 include both blade and arm?
I did the same, but it don't clear  the  centre now and assume it is an arm problem.

Bascule,

Not had any issues with mine thus far but not been on long enough yet.

Lez,

Arm and blade came all in at £10.00 !

Personally Im not expecting OEM fit or function but i will see how it goes

Do you think a genuine arm would last and clear better? or is it because it’s not designed for our e53 model?
When ordering a genuine item do I just ask for a e70 rear wiper arm and blade- and it will be a direct bolt on?

I put one on mine about 6 months ago and so far no problems and i think i paid less than £9 for it of the bay.

Luigi - s

Im no expert on this but in theory a genuine should fit as the drive spindle is the same OD.

From what i can gather its not designed for the E53 as the wiper arm parks to the right not left like ours ( when viewed from behind) you can tell by the curve in the arm itself.

Cannot advise any further sorry - just what ive gleaned and figured out.

Alan seems to have had his far a while so guess its like everything else - some will work fine some may be flawed.

Well my £9.50 ebay special has to go..fed up of endlessly trying to tweak it so that the middle section actually keeps contact with the glass!  put a £10 new blade on it, made no difference either.  Think this may have been a false economy..

Anyone have experience of the genuine e70 ones vs the cheapo ebay specials?

I still prefer the look of the e70 but am nervous about punting for a genuine one!
