New dashcam being installed tomorrow
New dashcam being installed tomorrow
I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while, so tomorrow I’m getting a Blackvue DR750S-1CH installed. Anyone on here got the 750? It seems to get good reviews.
Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
What’s your plans for positioning and also charging it? Any clever ideas to make it nice and discreet?

It’s one of the smallest ones on the market, so it’ll be hardwired behind the rear view mirror, so I won’t have to worry about charging it.

Yeah, that’s the best kind of solution. Would you mind sticking some pics up once fitted?

Who are you getting to install it? I am tempted, but do not want to tackle the install myself as I struggle to tie my shoelaces.

Hi
I have the same model installed in my X6M. Works really well , I did have the 2 channel front and rear camera
installed previously but it seemed to block out all the DAB radio signals. So I swapped it out for the single channel.
Download the Blackvue App and footage and software updates can be done from your phone.
I also have the Blackvue power magic pro installed this allows you to keep recording when you are parked up..

There's a company in Lightwater doing it.

I'm glad I just went for the front facing then! I was going to get the additional battery, but the 750 has a bump sensor, so will power up if the car is hit, while switched off.

Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
For those considering a rear mount as well pay particular attention to the cable routing. In order to avoid DAB interference (it’s due to inefficient vehicle DAB aerials which then need amplification and that signal boost then boosts everything - including the noise from the video signal on the camera cable), run any cables as close to the body as possible and along the floor.
If you can, use a metallic tape to stick the cable down against the metal body every 30cm or so. Do not run cabling in the roof space above the headlining. Keep the wires away from the radio system and side windows where the car aerials are fitted, if possible route down the opposite side of the car and place the camera as far away as possible.
Typical DAB installations using on glass antennas are approx 20-30% efficient and hence the amplifiers in the system. Most manufacturers use diversity amplification now as well whenever such broad radio spectrum coverage is needed, which just makes the whole issue worse! These amps pick up everything - including the video signal and wireless noise if that is fitted to the dash cam too.
Properly screened cabling, bonded to the chassis and making use of ferrite blocks is the best way forward for now.
The dash cams aren’t the cause of the issue, rather the use of poor aerial designs forced by designer limitations and no one wanting external antenna rods so forcing ‘solutions’ to be found that are less than ideal.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
Hi, I have a dashcam in my 2015 X5 3.0D M Sport, but plugged into the cigarette lighter as I am worried that it will drain down the battery if connected to a permanent feed, although the manufacturer assures me that it will shut down in power save mode, but don't want to risk it .
Where / how will you connect it in the overhead console and is the feed permanent or switched?
Look forward to your pics/comments.

Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
I too have a dash cam located by the mirror.
I have run the wire along the top of the windscreen (hidden) and then down the A pillar (hidden) and then around and under the glove box (hidden) and eventually into the central armrest for power.
It switches itself off after 5 minutes of the car being switched off and to date I've had no issues.
The install itself was dead easy.

Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
Very similar power routing as Mogsyman. Just see the slightest bit of cable going into the centre console. Switches off after 5 mins and never experienced and low battery due to the camera.
If the X3 is in a high traffic area like a multistory, or dodgy area, then I plug it in to a battery bank which keeps the camera running for up to 7 hours.

Same for me took about 5 minutes to install and can't see any cables (nextbase unit)

Re: New dashcam being installed tomorrow
All done. I went for the battery pack in the end, so it’s recording 24/7. Once the car battery drops to 12V, it kicks in, then charges when you run the car. Or something like that!
It’s very discreet. Will post some pictures when I remember to take them! )
