BMW Warranty

Post by dobbor1 » Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:47 pm

I’m soon to be renewing my warranty on the X5. Currently have a third party one. Considering a fully comprehensive BMW warranty but it’s significantly dearer. What are your thoughts and experiences which made you decide on which one gave better cover?

Just had the inlet manifold replaced which wasn’t covered. Not sure if any covers this item from what I’ve researched.

A bit nervous about all the companies to be honest as they always seem to try and wiggle out of a payment.

Thanks Jeff

I took out the BMW used warranty after the generic one I got with the car expired and to  be honest it is the best thing I have ever done, they have paid up on all the claims so far although they did drag there feet on one particularly big claim but that was the best part of £7K so i guess it was to be expected.

The only thing i would say is make sure the history is complete, service book stamped up and all accompanying invoices that way there is nothing for them to quibble about.

that seems high.. what year and spec and mileage is your car out of interest ?
I renewed on my last X5 when the auc warranty ran out and it was around £1200 for top cover with the highest excess but was told it was due to the car having done more than 60000 miles. I paid it but didn't really need to use it.
I now have a newer X5 with less than 60000 miles and will be interesting to see what its gonna be this time ?? I was going to give it a miss but ive owned this X5 (F15) about 4 months and all is good apart from the pan sunroof will not close some times from the tilt ?? will close later but bit worried of this but gonna get it checked out soon.

Full warranty is a must in my opinion remember the 40d could run near to £70k new.
So considering that if you built the car from scratch the parts would cost you nearly double that and that’s without labour.............

The navigation unit itself is over £6k if it goes, panoramic roof £4k, electronic handbrake £1400, Hydraullic lifters on both camshaft’s £3.5k, control units are eye watering too........

I would rather have the warranty in place and not need to use it, compared to looking at a £3k plus bill and not have the warranty to fall back on.

You always get a courtesy car and the Bmw assist is a great service too.

BMW Warranty

BMW have quoted me £2k with no excess. Mine is the 40d 2011 with 83k miles. With £250 excess it’s £1500. Tempted with the higher excess.

I know what you mean and it does ply on my mind but not paying 2.5 k !

Mines on 75k miles big spec car will just put money away every month and take my chances. Only keeping it another year then will be moving on.

I looked at it this way when I last took it out...if something bad does happen and it goes into thousands ££££££'s... then paying £250 ex will seem like a bargin  ;)

I took out a Bmw warranty last year on a 2012 3.0d with 44000 miles it's cost me just under 1k with £250 excess, so far I haven't had to use it.

I’ve decided on the £250 excess. Based on the potential huge repair bills it is a bargain.

I think the BMW Warranties go up at 70K miles but if you pay monthly then you keep going at a similar rate.

Heres my story,,, so far about BMW Insured Warranty....

My car came with it when i purchased it privately...

I continued the BMW Insured warranty that came with car, when it expired .

Shortly after, the car developed a transfer box fault, which was all sorted through the warranty. Great i thought. :) :)
So when i recently had a water leak issue i returned the car to my local BMW dealership, to be looked at, thinking im covered.,.,.
Only to be told that the "damage" to the aux radiator [towing pack]  was caused by a cable from the fog light rubbing on the alloy core was "wear and tear". So i had to stump up the costs myself....[aprox £550.00] >:( >:(
Now im fully aware that things like brakes etc arnt covered for "wear and tear",. But as far as im aware this radiator issue has been like this from factory. So in my mind was a build issue.
Even the service manager at the dealership was supprised, as they were asked, by the warranty people that they wanted the front bumper taking off to make sure what the cause was, costing them more time and labour...
I was told that if the core had split, then its a manufacturing issue, and as such idve been covered.
The dealership did actually help me in reducing the overall bill, BUT its the warranty co,s decision that was the suprise..

I suppose liked most insurance companys, they will try and get out of paying up, where poss...

Just some more info regarding BMW warranty costs.
I purchased my 2010 X5 35d via Marshalls BMW with an AUC Warranty which expires in March this year. The car has covered 56000 miles to date.
Today I received the quote to extend the warranty and with breakdown cover the quote is £1440 with zero excess and £834 with £250 excess.
As I do not require breakdown cover (I have alternative cover for other vehicles) the quote with £250 excess was £751 (or £78 per month).
I was told the quote would rise if not renewed within 7 days of the expiry of the existing cover.
I will definitely be renewing the warranty as I have already had the benefit of it during my owner ship with warranty work in excess of £1000 been carried out.
