Exhaust manifold

Post by Dannyh172 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 3:18 pm

Hi all. I’ve just had to replace the exhaust manifold on my 3.0d e53 X5 for the second time in 2 years! Both Indy’s were unhappy about fitting the cast iron replacements as the castings can be a poor fit! All I’m wondering is, out of interest, does anyone know what a main dealer would charge for this job? I’ve been told it’s 5hrs in the book. Thanks!

Around here (Cambs) a BMW Dealer will charge £200 per hour to fit anything.  They will only fit OEM parts.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Thanks for your reply x5sport! I begrudge paying the main dealer that sort of money knowing that 80% of their mechs are cowboys! The dealer local to me kept me waiting 4 hours for an oil change once! [emoji23]

its not a difficult job to do yourself, you simply have to remove half the world to do it.
I've done this one on my X5.

Personally, I would not let cowboys do this one, as the whole top of the engine has to come off for this job, & a Ham-Fisted bugger will ruin your car & shear off a lot of small bolts.
Swapping the manifold it self takes just 20 minutes & is a sinch.

if you are nr Birmingham/Stafford, I will gladly help you do it & share the task - just pick a sunny day... I have all the tools & space to do the job.
Step by step, I will point out what to remove, bolt by bolt... you do it, & I will assist & advise, as I have a poorly back.
By the way, I'm HGV & Performance Track Car Trained with Porsche & McLaren... so I'd like to think I can sort this.

Just bring a manifold, & some jointing goo + new studs & nuts.
Regards
Grant B
