TPMS Sensor questions
TPMS Sensor questions
Hi
If im buying a used set of BMW Style 304 17 inch wheels with non runflat Pirelli Sottozero 205/65/R17 tyres, you would assume they have the TPMS sensors fitted as BMW dont appear to sell them without.
If they are not installed what options do i have of having them fitted and programmed, is a trip to the dealer the only way or could the likes of KwikFit etc do this for me?
Better yet, can i just stick the wheels on myself and it will automatically program??
Thanks

Re: TPMS Sensor questions
Agree. These are not fitted with TPMS sensors. I bought them from an eBay seller and the car picked them up with no coding (2016 F25). The seller originally sent me a set for a x5, but once I had the right ones they worked perfectly. I replied to another post on here recently with all the details. Big saving over BMW!
Re: TPMS Sensor questions
Ah ok, so the answer was on my own thread.
Another query I had, once these sensors are correct and registered to the car, when I take them off at summer and put them back on when winter comes around can I just put the wheels on myself and use the idrive Tpms reset to pick up the sensors?
Same question for the summer tyres, as my car should already know them is it just a case of a simple reset?

Re: TPMS Sensor questions
That's what I'm expecting to happen.
Re: TPMS Sensor questions
Sorry to keep dragging this on, but i found a company called TPMS Warehouse who sell the huf sensors at £45.00 each which is great. Before i found them i asked BMW for an estimate, and they sent me the attached. As you can see its broken down into two parts, im confused what the other part might be? its 15.99 so it cant be the TPMS sensor surely? and what is the other part at £65.28?? am i missing a part im going to need or this total BS?

[/quote]The sensor and valve are two separate part numbers. You need both. Will see if I can find my receipt from BMW with the part numbers.
Once fitted, replacing the winters for summers is just a matter of resetting the system from iDrive and driving away.

Re: TPMS Sensor questions
Are you absolutely sure about this? It's just that Tpms warehouse are selling the entire unit as one, the sensor and valve, for just over 40 quid?! So I think BMW have played you a bit there. Maybe someone can tell me otherwise?
Re: TPMS Sensor questions
The 3rd party units are sold as single parts, but are in fact multi piece. The HUF ones for example have the sender unit and valve sent as one part, but they are actually separate pieces. If you have a look at realism.com you'll see a breakdown of the parts.
I don't see the need to buy BMW TPMS units when aftermarket works just as well.

Re: TPMS Sensor questions
To be fair, I didn't have this information 18 months ago when looking at a winter wheel combo for the lci X3.
Yes I paid a little more, but no regrets.
Everything is working well and for a total cost of £720, I am into my second winter. They will go another year before the tyres are due for replacement
